I am in the process of applying to USMA.
I did farely well on my PFT
Basketball throw: 84 ft
Shuttle run: average
Pull ups: 18
Sit ups: 78
push ups: 54
mile run: 6:59 (i was bitterly cold out when i ran this and the average is 6:40)
My SATs: 1500 (only average... i know)
GPA:3.5/4.00
The only thing that i have left to do is take the medical exam which i am having trouble getting an appointment for. I guess you can say i procrastinated it because i didn't know exactly what it was. It is literally the last thing that has be done for my application to be complete.
Please reply with your opinions on my chances of getting in.
Thank you.

I'm sure that you will get the, "Noone can tell you," answer. It is a very long, arduous process that everyone goes through, and we all "hurry up and wait" to hear of the admissions decision. The best thing to do is retake the Feb. ACT, and to finish your DoDMERB. I would also suggest doing something to take your mind off of waiting to hear your appointment status. Like myself and many other candidates, we stalk our mailboxes, but the best thing to do is sit tight and wait. Best of luck, and finish the medical process!

thanks a lot for replying. once question though. how long is the medical process once the appointment is actually completed? (assuming you finished it) do i have to wait a couple weeks for a letter of some sort?

For you to be qualified, the letter will be simultaneously sent to you and USMA. It will show up in your portal once they have received it. For me (back in August) I believe it took a week or two, from exam time to letter receipt. In case USMA takes a long time, I would fax them the letter as soon as you receive it to double check that they have received it. This was a smooth and quick process for me, but I have been blessed with very little medical problems.

However, I believe you must first be qualified or disqualified first by DoDMERB before you are offered anything (unless you received a LOA with a conditional offer for medical). The waiver process is determined case by case by the admissions board. They will ask the candidate to get a waiver for the specific condition and then (depending on the outcome of the waiver) will either offer, or not offer you an appointment (you could also be put on the NWL, or prep school offer). Best of luck to you!!:thumb:

seek nomination? Leadership experience/awards? Sports?

Hard to give insight based on the info you provided without more. And that's all we can do here, motivate, inform and suggest. This is a very long process.

If your physical isn't hampered with conditions that need confirmation or further investigating, I've heard you can get results rather quickly but I'll tell you, everyone here is so different and despite your best guess that your qualified, things happen. When it comes, be honest and real patient.

I was a varsity wrestler for 2 years and a 4 year varsity for track and field. I throw javelin. I ran cross country for my senior year for fun and got a varsity letter along with honorable mention. I am a 2 year captain as well for track. The only thing physically wrong with me is that I wear glasses when I drive.

What about the nomination? No where do you mention applying for a nomination. A nomination is required to be given an appointment to the academies.

Just curious, is the 1500 SAT a total or just Math and CR? Anyway, if you're shooting for 2017, finish whatever else needs to be completed ASAP...

I did apply for nominations as well. I had interviews that went fairly well I thought but I am a but nervous because I am in no way shape or form associated with any JROTC programs and there were kids there that were. It was a bit nerve racking. I have yet to hear back from them

If you think you did well, then don't worry about it. You don't have to be in JROTC to get in, nor do all JROTCers get in. So worry not. If you are supposed to get a nomination, it will come to you independently of your JROTC participation.

Awesome quotes! Thanks for the support

In all seriousness, read the stickies. All of your questions have been asked and answered before.

Hey, I hear you on that but every year the same questions are asked regardless due to the new candidates wanting updated answers or they simply want to connect with people who are going to or have gone through the process--like you! It keeps the forums alive with people needing support, answers and motivation. Most if not all questions have been answered at some point but by your suggestion, the whole page would be all stickies and nothing more.

You were once in their shoes, right?

Consider answering the question with a follow up that shows where to find the most common answers--tactfully.

Not to derail the thread, but there are plenty of unique threads/questions in the USMA forum. If you can't use the search function or look two inches below the "New Post" button to find the "What are my Chances" sticky, maybe you should rethink your college/career choice.

Or maybe I'm just being a cynical yuk.

You don't mean to derail, but you insist on it. You're no better than the OP if you think you're resistant untactful like replies help the young applicant/candidate.

So c'mon....

Listen, weren't you eager to find out information regardless of systems in place. I'm no longer 17 years old but I've recruited plenty and my second oldest (first being in AFG) wants this so badly he tends to overlook things.

You don't want to assassinate their will to come here because previous accomplished candidates don't care for the redundancy. Every now and then, something different happens in these threads that we all learn.

You made your point two posts ago. I got it, everyone got it. You've managed to as they say in a "few good men" --strenuously object-- to the poster's lack of foresight.

Yes, the stickies are there and I'm willing to bet that kids coming here over the next months will continue to make mistakes and overlook them--as they do so innocently. Be flattered that they want what you got. The best advice they can get is from you so long as you remain respectful.

Sorry mods, I'm done in this thread. Good luck OP.
