AFROTC Question

I have a son that is in his 2nd year of college. He is declaring a Biology major. He is considering going AFROTC. Not that it makes a difference, his older brother is a 3rd year cadet at USAFA.

A few questions. With a Biology major, what are his chances of getting a slot?
He had OCD, Terrets (sp), and ADHD up until a few years ago. Will this disqualify him?
He goes to a state university, will that help?
He has made Deans List the last 2 semesters? His GPA is around a 3.5.
In HS he was a two sport athlete. He was pretty good in both sports. He has at least 8 Varsity letters, he had a lot of other EC's in HS.
Who or how does he get the process going?

I know how to direct a child to the Acadmies, but have no clue for ROTC.
 
PIMA will be the best person to answer your questions about AFROTC. From what I have seen her post it's a bit difficult to start AFROTC this late in the game. AROTC has programs in place for those starting their junior year, I'm not sure what AFROTC offers.

The medical issues will most likely be the biggest hurdle, it will all depend on how long ago and when he was on medication. Things are really getting tight when it comes to Dodmerb and waivers.

AFROTC cadets will go ADAF, they must meet the DoDMERB Q or DQ, and AF must decide to waive or not waive the DQ. There will be a DoDMERB type exam prior to commissioning. He will need an exam for SFT too.

Tourette syndrome is not a grow out of regarding age medical condition, the ticks remain regardless of age.

He will have to acknowledge just like your AFA child his medical conditions.

If I read your post correctly he is going to be a rising jr. in May. The real problem is for AFROTC he must attend SFT, and still have at least 3 semesters left to graduate.

Leave the medical issues aside. SFT is summer, he would be a jr. before applying for SFT. He would have to delay graduation for the chance of getting SFT.

I would suggest because he has many medical issues to apply OCS next spring as a jr in college. Utilize this time to get his OCD, ADHA, and Tourette's paperwork in order.

I would also like to point out that he needs to have at least 3 years left of college to join, the 2 year program no longer exists.
