I hope this is okay to post this here? I've tried every other avenue and am now stretching out. A FB parents pages have been super helpful getting out the word but so far no "forever family" has been found.

this is my dog. (or was until the USAF gave us orders to move overseas and we made the painful decision that it would be best for her to not make the move) We found what we thought would be a lovely home for her and had her transported to there when we PSCed overseas. We were sadly mistaken. The family passed her on to someone else (I believe b/c of health issues within their family) who took her walking off leash and she bolted. According to Animal Control, none of them did anything to find her and she is now their property. We only discovered it through a miracle.

I am heartbroken. i had someone in MD who would have taken her to save her from a shelter but this other family had a child and seemed to want her for her so I made the decision to send her to them.

My little girls are concerned "the new owners aren't giving her flea treatments"... if they only knew. (I've not told them about this).

If you are in CT or know anyone in CT who might want this wonderful dog, please pass on the info. She has to stay in CT per AC and anyone interested must go through their adoption process. She has done poorly with all the large dogs prospective owners have tried her with but no one has tried a small dog that I'm aware of. We owned 2 cats when we had her and she was good with them.

She is very active for an older girl and is super easy to take care of. She has always been great with children of all ages.

Thank you.

I sent your post to a dog loving friend in of mine in CT. She said to tell you that she sent your post to dog loving people all over CT. I hope someone will respond and give your baby a good home. :thumb:

Have you checked to see if there is collie rescue? We only rescue our dogs, our latest is a lab/great dane mix that we got through a lab rescue.

There are many foster dog owners and usually they work with a breed rescue. We had a border collie, and they are great dogs at an older age. Border collie owners love that breed....after they are older than 3 yrs old :shake:

I would check to see if there is a collie rescue. Try the AKC site, because they usually have links for each breed regarding rescue. That is how I found our Boxer and Lab.

Pima,
I know there is a border collie rescue in the area and I went to their site..it looked like they had their own adoption list...will they work with an Animal Control office? We adopted Ella from another family when she was three. My only experience with any shelters before that was so bad I ended up buying a puppy!

Having worked with this shelter, my faith is restored in that process but I really dont know how it works and beyond putting out Ellas story I'm not sure what will step on toes or not. She is in a great shelter as far as shelters go but it's still a shelter.

Do I just contact the rescue with her story and let them know she's there. Legally she is AC's property now.

I think they will.

Our Myrtle was not even born yet when she was rescued. The AC knew Mom was full bred boxer about to deliver and contacted NCBR. They collected the Mom, and her Mom gave birth at the foster families house within hours, where they kept all of the puppies, and Mom for 7 weeks. Mom was adopted, but pups left 1st.

Bandit, our black lab/dane was also fostered because the AC in Fairfax VA contacted Lab Rescue.

A non-kill shelter def. will.

Contact me and I will ask my sister for guidance. This is a woman that has a dog she rescued from Katrina, while living in OH. She just saved dogs from Sandy in NJ. She has also rescued puppies from dog mills in DC.

I am sure someone on this site can make sure your little girls know that Ella will have a very Merry Christmas.

Thanks Pima. I sent them an email telling them Ella's story and asking if they can help.

I heard back from the rescue...they only take pure breds. :(

I checked their list of adoptable pets and they have a few mixes on the list. I called the shelter to check on Ella (she assured me Ella is doing very well.) and to let her know I'd spread the word some more about Ella. She took the AC contact information from me and is going to contact them directly as well to see if that makes any difference and also try some other rescue organizations in their state to see if they can get more help that way. (They've been advertising her locally and on petfinder)

I'm getting more hopeful again...good thing..I need to sleep!

Ella still needs a home but her listing has been shared by over 80 people on FB, which is about 20 more than when I posted this request, and I know of several emails sent out.

Thank you to all who are helping me spread the word.

A Happy Update!

Ella was adopted by a "great family" this week according to the AC officer I spoke with. :yay:

Thanks so much to those who helped spread the word about her.

Such good news!!! I know you are relieved.
Thanks for the update. :thumb:

I am so sorry. That would be hard. I do understand, kind of. I have cats, but I really love animals, and I know how hard this can be. I hope you find someone, and please let me know.

Sorry, this didn't come up so I didn't see that you found her a home. I am so glad. I know how hard it is with these animals. I am so happy for you.

Happy to hear the happy ending. My dogs are family members and it would break my heart if I had to give them up ... much less to find out they were in limbo. Many of the sacrifices that military families make every day are obvious, but here's an example of the kinds of sacrifices that most people never know about. Thank you for your entire family's service to our country (even Ella's). :)
