Hotel Suggestions

Looking for hotel suggestions near Kings Point. I have been told to be careful of the hotels that are not chains. We are visiting the campus at the end of the month for a second time. Our DS staying overnight. The Inn At Great Neck Is Book (staying over on a Friday night). We are also looking for a safe area near restaurants.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
 
Also, the Andrew Hotel in Great Neck. Both the Inn and the Andrew have been supporters of KP. Mention that if you stay at either place. Plenty of places to eat in the area. Avoid Peter Lugars - will not support KP with any donations after being asked over several years!! The other steak places - Mortons and Burton and Doyle have been loyal supporters of the Academy and the students.
 
We always stay at the Hyatt Place in Garden City. It's about a 20 minute drive to the Academy but is new, clean, and located right next to a nice mall with lots of eating options. I always check Trip Advisor and the Bed Bug Registry before choosing a hotel and this one always gets a thumbs up :thumb:
 
Thank you for your recommendations. Ddcga... thanks for the tip "Bed Bug Registry never new this was a website lol. We will also make sure we dine at a restaurant that supports KP. Thanks for your help!
 
One of the other football parents recommended the Comfort Inn in Bellerose to us, and that is where we stayed when DS had his overnight visit. It is compact, but clean, and had a parking lot in the back. It had a military rate (we qualify) so was about $98. It's in an urban area but we planned to drive into NYC for the day. For a short stay it's very do-able. There is a good diner less than a black away and a good Italian restaurant about 2 (walking) blocks away.

My favorite is the Inn at Great Neck but yes, they do fill up quickly. The Andrew is also in Great Neck and 10 min from campus- I've heard very good reviews and also one not so good review- the area is great and walking distance to restaurants, CVS, stores, train station, etc.

*Do NOT stay at the Anchor Inn in Queens- we made that mistake once and will not do that again.

I've stayed at the Hyatt Place in Garden Cindy- tons of traffic but the hotel was nice. 20 min from the Academy.

A "must" at some point when visiting the Academy is the Glen Cove Mansion- but I suggest staying there when the weather is nice and you want to "get away" and enjoy the weekend with your mid. It's 30 min from the Academy and is just AMAZING!

I've heard of some people staying out by the airport (LaGuardia) in a variety of hotels and they enjoyed that as well. Best of luck to you!

We're staying there for graduation (yay!) in June. One factor with Long Island is that the traffic is ALWAYS bad. Doesn't matter where you are.:eek:
 
We always stay at Hilton Garden city. Cheaper than great neck and a reasonable drive.
 
When our son was at KP we always stayed at the Andrew. We liked it because it was close to restaurants and the train and bus station. We didn't rent a car so this was a great option for us. There are always a lot of KP families that stay there. Bruce's Deli is a great place to eat. There are quite a few restaurants within walking distance too.
 
If we have a car, we have used the Hyatt Garden City. When I went by myself without a car and DS went by himself for indoc I used The Andrew. I actually enjoyed The Andrew because of being right in Great Neck. However, with more family members with, the spaciousness of the Hyatt Garden City and proximity to any store or resturant one could want was convienient. My favorite was Legal Seafoods. I do not recall seeing a single chain resturant in downtown Great Neck. All the restaurants we have been to in Great Neck were very good and they are many.:thumb:
 
Hotels

Marriot in Uniondale is also a good option. Maybe 25-mins away
 
There is a brand new Homewood Suites opening up in March in Carle Place/Westbury. Nice if you are going with the family. They have Studio, 1 BR and 2 BR suites. It's about 13 miles from the Academy.
 
I'll second the Hyatt Place in Garden City. Lots of KP parents there Parents Weekend. We've stayed there three PW's as well as a couple of other visits to KP. Again, highly recommended.
