Hello, I am a junior in High school,
I have a 3.8 cumulative
Multiple Honors & AP classes (mainly mathematics and science)
Class Cabinet
1 Varsity football letter
Choir (will be an officer next year)
20+ volunteer hours
I'm waiting to see the status of my acceptance into the National Honor Society
I will be running for Senior Class Vice President
I've been on the Homecoming Court for the past 2 years(I don't know if that means anything, but at a school like West Point, they seem to take anything and everything into account)

Any suggestions on what I could do to make my résumé any stronger? I will be taking the ACT + writing this Saturday. Please give your input on anything you believe will help me. Thank you so much.

First advice

For any number of good reasons, I hope the name in your post is not your real name. There is a good thread about what information you should not divulge on these boards. Only advice is start to making contacts with your members of congress early. The nomination process is probably the most difficult and frustrating part off the process. Good luck, it is a long road but worth taking.

Thank you for your input. And I don't know why that type of thing matters, but you seem knowledgeable.... Consider my username changed!

Summer Fun

Right now, the application process is in full swing to attend SLE. Take a look at that on WP site. Also search for Boys/Girls State programs close to you and submit an application too.

You need to take the SAT/ACT test as much as possible and get scores in the 700 range and 31 range.

Get involved with leadership positions in school and out side of school.

Apply to attend Boys State this summer. It is run by the American Legion and all the service academies recommend attending. Are you interested in attending the USMA's SLE? Applications are being accepted via the Admissions site.
Can't stress enough about how important standardized test scores are. My son did not take ACT but the SAT (6 times!) For the SAT you should strive to get your math score to 700 or more and mid 600 plus on the reading portion. West Point will superscore your test (will take combination of your best scores from multiple SAT tests or multiple ACT tests).

Toot, tooooot

Ok, the second toot went too far, I agree. Sorry

This sounds pretty good. Keep taking SAT/ACT, that is what I am doing. I think I am taking it for the second time this year (first was in 7th grade, so I don't think it counts). Also, I would suggest to add to the volunteer hours. I don't know for sure, but that sounds like something that would look really good. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

You should hit the ACTs and/or SATs hard. Take them multiple times if possible. Doing that should help you. Also, really dig into the nomination process. Get in contact with the appropriate people for that now. Set a good impression early.

If you can do SLE or boys state that will also help you out. How is your class rank?

I'm sitting at about 40 out of 400
