Can someone confirm the date for Class of 2017 induction? I seem to recall that I saw June 27th. Yes, my DS is still waiting for the BFE. However, as the optimistic mom and planner, I want to make hotel reservations for the trip.

What is a general schedule for parents/cadets? Do most parents stay to watch the cadets march to Joe’s Valley and then depart?

Please advise... it’s always easier to cancel hotel reservations than scramble to make them come April.

Per the most current calendar on the forum, I-Day is scheduled for 27 JUN 2013.

I'm not sure what most folks do, but last year we drove out to USAFA early in the week and dropped DS off for I-Day (In-processing Day) on Thursday. We returned to the Academy early the next morning to watch the swearing in ceremony from the Chapel wall. If you go out there, a must see. DS met with some of his NWP (Northwestern Prep) buddies a few days before I-Day but that was the week that Colorado Springs was burning down so outdoor activities in the area were a bit limited. The march out to Jack's Valley (not Joe's) is in about 3 weeks so parent's don't wait around for it. C-Springs is a great vacation venue so some folks vacation before or after the drop off. However, remember that your son must arrive to I-Day injury free. I wanted to do a family rafting trip the week before I-Day but was advised against it due to the risk (albeit low) to injury for my DS.

My DS is a C4C so I'm not sure of the In-Processing date for Class of 2017. The cadets do not march to Jack's Valley until the second half of BCT (Basic Cadet Training also known as Beast) The first half is spent at the Dorms learning the basics; drill, customs and courtesies, testing etc. Last year's class had a unique situation in terms of drop off. The fires in Colorado Springs prevented using the normal drop off spot (Doolittle Hall). They used the Cadet Gym instead and it afforded parents an opportunity to see them (albeit briefly) from the viewing stands above. They were then marched out and onto the bus. I personally headed to the Chapel wall after that. Although I was unable to specifically see my son, I spent a good part of the day on the wall and watched the cadets go from section to section while gettign yelled at. Provided all things go smooth this year, it would be back at Doolittle Hall and there is an information fair for parents that you can attend after you drop off your son or daughter.

Thanks!!!

Thanks for the quick reply... I’ve read every piece of literature I can get my hands on.... so I knew better that to connect the two events! Let’s call it a senior moment. Thanks for the link to the calendar... I had not come across this yet.

I hope to be there at the wall shedding my share of tears!

Keeping the faith,

On I-day it all happens pretty quickly when you get onto the Academy intake area. They say a few quick goodbyes, checkin, and off they go. From that point on we only saw a few glimpses. We went out back and saw our daughter in line for the bus. I snapped a photo as she stepped up onto the bus and gave it the title: Last step as a civilian. Still gets my "allergies" going when I look at it. We didn't stay for swearing in, but we did check out the webguy photos which were great to see. Strange time as a parent. They're kind of new college students but not really.

The Colorado Parents club usually hosts a free picnic to families after they drop off their doolie. This was cancelled last year due to the fire. The picnic is a great place to meet other parents and support one another and I think the tables are color coded so parents can identify parents in their kids' squad.

And by the way, the money raised through the halloween, valentines and finals goodie bag sales, fund the free picnic :))

Won't this years picnic already be funded with the money that wasn't spent on last years' picnic?

We stopped by the picnic in 2011. I encourage all parents to attend. You may have to park a fairly long distance, but worth it nonetheless. By the way, my DS enjoyed his Valentines goodie bag. Kudos to the CO Parents Club! :thumb:

I day

For those who are curious, sometime, (I believe May or early June), you will find out (I think on the portal?) what time to report which will be by BCT squadron. In this way you will find out what Cadet Squadron you will be in for the school year. A (Aggressors) have to be there bright and early at 6:45am, the Flying Tigers, for example got to sleep in that day. This year I hear there will be less number of squadrons, I believe 8 instead of 10 which means 5 flights per squadron (this requires less leadership positions). This would mean Aggressors would have 5 flights. Aggressors A will go into CS 1, Aggressors B will go into CS2..... you get the picture.

Correct, each basic squadron will now have 5 flights. I will be interested to see if they move the first step of in-processing back to Doolittle Hall, or if they will use the Field House as they did last year due to the fires. Frankly, the size and layout of the Field House allowed inprocessing to flow more smoothly than in previous years.
