Mrs. degree at USMA and USNA ?

Yeah, exactly why my dd wants to attend WP, go through beast, live a college life of restrictions, give up her extensive wardrobe, make up and deal w/ a hairbun everyday, and then serve for a minimum of five years. A husband who makes $70,000 (?) - that's it. This is some hardnose breakthrough journalism. :yllol:

Yuck! I was an enlisted female in the AF and some of the officers' wives treated us like our only mission in joining the military was to steal their officer husband from them. No thanks!

Girls, do yourself a favor and just go to one of these great colleges yourself and earn your own way. It will make you that much more attractive to these so called "great catches" that this "journalist" seems to think you want to latch onto anyway.

Being married is great. Being desperate is NOT!!!!

This is one of the most shallow pieces of reporting, as well as shallow overall values, I've seen in my life.

Let's be honest here, folks.

Sure, no young lady would put herself through the West Point experience to "find a husband."

But....... I can also say, of my female classmates that I know.... whom are married, I only know 2 that are not married to former cadets.

Where I live now in VA, I personally know 7 West Point couples.

I married an Army Officer as well. Neither of us joined the Army to find spouses.

Proximity is the darndest thing! (As well as that whole mutual interests thing.)

This is absolutely hilarious. Right... I just want to go through all that to get married. If I find the guy God has for me up there fine, but it certainly
isn't why I want to go there. No one in their right mind would go there just for that, although some one suggested that it was why I wanted to go
there.

Has it occurred to any of you that the article didn't say that attending USMA is a great way to find a husband, but rather it said USMA is a great place for your future husband to have attended? Big difference. Plenty of guys marry civilian girls. In fact, most do.

Scout, reread the first 2 paragraphs. Can't meet your future hubby in biology class unless you're in class with him.

And yet, you don't HAVE to meet him in biology class.

Don't worry, most girls at USMA tend to find that hubby in their 4 years. There's a reason for that. It's their best hope.

Pure ratio of males to females isn't really that great of an indicator of how easy it would be to find someone. Speaking generally, doing flutter kicks together in the nasty-ass Severn River is not necessarily conducive to falling in love (not to mention that whites/working blues/SDBs are not exactly flattering to the female form).

A true midhound would know that the secret to ensnaring a MIDN is going to Towson/UMD/GWU/other nearby college and having a "mid connection" to bring guys to parties or being a bartender/waitress at a place that serves alcohol in DTA.
There's a couple exceptions, but the overwhelming majority of people I know who are married or in serious relationships are NOT married to other former mids. A decent number of females (4/8 from my company/class) are with people from USNA, but honestly a lot of mid-on-mid relationships don't last.

First, it's a stupid article. If you're a female looking to meet a mid/cadet, there are many easier and more productive ways to do it than attending a SA. While I'm sure there is at least one woman out there who's attended a SA to find a husband, I've never heard of anyone with that goal making it through.

However, the subject of men and women who attended SAs marrying each other is interesting.

In my day, maybe 1/3 of the women mids married a fellow mid (not necessarily in the same class) within a year of graduation. As with most SA marriages right out of school, most of those marriages also failed. However, when those women remarried, it was almost always to a military man, although not always someone they went to school with.

I've never seen a survey, although there probably is one. However, anecdotally, I would say that most of the grads in my generation who are currently married are married to men who are or were in the military.

My own opinion on this is that the drive -- for lack of a better word -- that propels women through a SA makes them look for similar attributes in a husband. We may also be looking for someone who understands what we accomplished. And, most people tend to look for similar interests, etc. in our spouses. Going through a SA creates an immediate bond in that respect.

Just my $0.02.

Lol...midhound. At USMA it's a "trouhound" though that's usually males chasing females.

Hmmm, Where better?

Sent this article to my DD last night. After a good laugh she made two points, the first didn't surprise me since I am sure any young person who makes it to the USMA is pretty strong willed. I have to admit the second is simply true.

1. WP is where the guys should be looking to find a world class mate not the gals, where else will you find so many women of such quality in one place?

2. Where better to find a man that I would approve of.

Pretty good logic, guess that is why she is headed there and I am writing notes on a message board.

Show me a 2LT making $70K and I will marry him/her. Why am I still buying things for her? At that rate she should be giving me a stipend.:shake: At current rates a 2LT under two is about $35K. Maybe they figured medical and housing? She did meet a great guy at TBS.:thumb: They both clean up pretty good after you scrape all the mud off.

I wonder if anyone has ever bothered compiling the statistics on who female SA graduates marry. My guess would be most of them would marry a man with military connections...

Just a small hijack.

Hey BUFF81 is that Boston Undergroud Film Festival or Big Ugly Fat Fellow? Worked NKP at call sign INVERT and call sign BROMO was next door running ARC LIGHTS. They used to let us know when we could see a strike. Very impressive. Great platform with a great history.:thumb:

This is kind of funny. OK a lot funny, although we were in the grocery store when I told my mom abou tit, and two of the workers at Bi-Lo got interested in the conversation and wanted to know why I preferred USMA to the Citadel. Nothing against the Citadel, but they are kind of hard to compare.
