My DD is ready to make her final decison for college and is weighing pros and cons. Does anyone have any information to offer regarding AFROTC at University of Illinois vs Iowa State detachments? We have visited both and both seem great.

I think you are not going to find any info regarding your post.

IMPO, this is a gut check moment.

The only thing I would say is check with the cadre...what is their SFT selection rate as an AS200, what is the avg cgpa (tech/non-tech). Chances for the career field she wants now.

Activities at each det. GMC night (AS100/200)? Arnie Air, Angel Flight, Silver Wings, Honor Guard.

Housing?

This site is not big, but I would assume every det has a FB page.

Best wishes, thoughts and hopes.

Coming from myself, I would steer her towards Illinois.

However biased I am, it is with good reason. The massive, centrally located armory and excellent facilities give Illinois ROTC a huge leg up!

Go Illini!

Thanks for the feedback. After visiting Illinois for a second time and talking to a couple of AFROTC cadets, she has decided Illinois! She was happy to hear the amount of female cadets at the detachment. She is super pumped and accepted her admission yesterday. Now we will just keep our fingers crossed for the next board!

Illini

precour, our DS was accepted at University of Illinois, and we are waiting on that AFROTC portal too. He was really impressed with the cadre there. Plan A is an appointment at the Academy, but Plan B sounds great too.

WAM that's fantastic! We have a friend with the same exact plan. I'm glad my DD will be in great company at Illinois!

I received a type-7 AFROTC scholarship, and if I use it, I will be attending Illinois. I am still waiting to hear from USAFA, though. I also just received an appointment to West Point which threw a monkey wrench into my decision making situation.

I'd like to have to wrestle with those decisions! Good luck and congratulations.

Soccer Guy, congrats!!!

It would be a fun thing indeed if you and cprecour's DS and our DS ended up at UI at the end of the day. :)
