Does anyone know when SUNY Maritime announces their CAP scholarships and new student merit scholarships? Not enjoying the waiting game!

I think we have to wait til a NYS budget is in place. Once the nudges is enacted, SUNY Maritime will know how many scholarships they have.

Oh My!

Oh My! How can the kids decide where to go by the deadlines if they don't know what the money looks like? This really complicates things. Looks like April will be a busy month for everyone! I see on this forum that people do double deposit, but I wonder how ethical that is? If they are waiting for final information on scholarship money it makes the decision risky.

Many, if not most, schools do not release their financial aid offers until April 1. Nothing new here. Final decisions don't need to be made until May 1. There is plenty of time. Just have alternate plans in place and ready to go.

Merit scholarships are often awarded well before the "financial aid" letters though. My son knows his merit status at two schools, Presidential at SUNY Albany and National Buckeye at OSU. He has plans A, B, and C. Just hard to know when to put the plans in motion, and when it is too late. I don't see the PM? Am I missing something? Not to tech proficient obviously! Thanks for all the help here on the forum though! At least I feel like we are not waiting all alone.

Psychmom, not sure what happened to PM. My understanding for the CAP scholarhip is that once the NYS budget is complete, the school gets a handle on how many scholarships it can award. The school should have already notified the Assemblyperons/Senators of each ditrict who has applied for the CAP scholarship in their districts. The Assemblyperson/Senator then needs to nominate your child. It's a little tricky because the. A or S can only have 1 active scholarship - thus, if A/S had a student on year #3 of scholarship that S/S can't nominate for a scholarship.
I'm on faculty at SUNY A if your child decide to attend there!!

Very cool! He may well end up at Albany. He has been awarded a type 7 AFROTC for Atmospheric Science and has his physical tomorrow. He is chill, I am a nervous wreck. I think that would be his first choice, but he also liked Maritime and the Meteorology concentration. Just not sure if he will have all the ducks in a row to know if he will be able to use the ROTC scholarship if he needs any remedials etc., so the CAP scholarship is another option. Had to accept the 4 year quickly so didn't have time to explore the possibility of OSU, still playing phone tag to see if they will take the OOS type 7.

All great possibilities, feeling quite blessed.

Also love that Albany will let him combine his ROTC and merit!

I spoke to Admissions and they told me a decision on CAP would be made by end of March beginning of April. If the student applied for CAP and New Student they will.consider him/her for CAP first since its more money. The persons I spoke to.did not mention any delay because of the budget. Good luck to all. We seem to have parallel lives...

PM about SUNY-M

Oh my, I am panicking a bit as DS applied on the deadline and is still waiting for a decision. I'm not even aware of CAP and how you apply for it or any other scholarships. Can someone PM me the info?

Mman, I just sent you a PM!

Good luck to all of our kids!! DS received his acceptance to SUNY Maritime last week. Accepted students day is April 14(I think). Who else is going?

We will probably be there. DS just got his acceptance last week too. Still waiting to hear from KP.

Guys we definitely need more posters from the Maritime Colleges- so make sure you don't forget us and keep us in the loop about life and experiences at Ft Schuyler- and that goes for any other Cadets at the other State Maritimes.
Good luck!!

Thanks for the info NYer! I believe the deadline for the New Student Scholarship and the CAP were February 15th. It makes more sense that the CAP decisions will be out in April so kids can make the choices with full knowledge. I'm not even sure if our district has a scholarship to give. Hoping we have the final "Qualified" stamp on the AFROTC scholarship by then too! Not so sure about that, it went to dodmerb on 3/8. We were very impressed with SUNY M. Not sure if we'll make the accepted student day, since we may be making a last minute run to Ohio State. Good Luck making those decisions everyone. Somehow they will all end up where they belong!

We also spoke with admissions and they said that we will find out in during first week of april concerning CAP scholarship

My DS will be at the SUNY maritime accepted students day on the 14th. We too are waiting on KP

We are all calling!

I think we are all calling! When we spoke to them Friday they said "in the next few weeks" the scholarship and financial aid info will be out. We will get no need based aid, but wondered if the merit money might also be listed on the financial aid letter as it was with the other schools. Good luck everyone!

Has anyone heard about the CAP scholarship yet? We heard informally that DS got the nomination from the state senator but haven't heard from the school about any award. Also has anyone or anyone's student done an overnight. Just wondering about feedback regarding the experience.

My DS also heard informally he received the cap scholarship from state senator. Suny maritime informed DS that he should hear "soon". There was only one overnight scheduled at end of march which my DS could not attend. They are only offering day visits . DS will go to student acceptance day on April 14
