Has anyone heard anything from the Feb. board yet? I saw the date of Feb. 11th tossed out as a possible meeting date for the last MO board. If that was accurate I would think some awardees would be getting notification soon.

1st thought - I belIeve I saw another post where it was indicated the second Marine Option board had been moved back one week - so if the 11th was the original date that would mean the board just met.

2nd thought - I am guessing here - but I would think that there are actually two steps to every scholarship decision: selection and assignment to a unit. I am not sure the selction board does the latter which could explain the considerable delay in getting the results announced. The first part is relatively easy whereas the second (by my judgement) is a very complex algorithim (linear program).

My DS was awarded a MO NROTC scholarship back in 2011. His packet was reviewed by the board around February 10th. He was notified of his scholarship on March 15th. It was a LONG and agonizing wait! Good luck to you and hang in there!

We found out my DS did not get chosen in the early board two to three weeks after they met. He has been re-boarded, and it is my understanding they met again around 19th. I expect to hear something about a week into March. Hope he gets it, but he is already working on plan B with PLC juniors. If he gets scholarship, he may decline for PLC. Plc will give him a guaranteed flight contract if he passes ATSB, and his service time will began when he attends OCS his first college summer. This means when he graduates college, he will receive commission as 2LT. with three to four years of service credited pay. It makes a big difference. It also looks as if he might receive some other scholarship money outside of milituary. We shall see, but as posted many times in this forum, have a plan B in place. Also college programer is a good option.

still nothing

:unhappy: still waiting for notification...apparently the board met 2+ weeks ago now, but no results have been released. Still waiting for the big 3 Academies to make their decisions about me too. Hurry up and wait...welcome to your life in the military!

The Marines move slowly. It seemed like it took forever to hear the results of the second board back in '11. We didn't finally get word until mid-April and it wasn't good news. Have backup plans in place just in case. Hopefully you'll get positive news. BTW - mid April is plenty of time to execute on backup plans if needed. Sometimes you need to just let these things ripen.

NROTC-MO- February Board

We are also waiting on pins & needles for results of second board. Recent media coverage of sequestration has me wondering if it impacted board selection. I realize that the board met prior to the March 1 date, but I do wonder what affect, if any, it may have had on awarding scholarships..

It's possible I suppose. I haven't heard of any scholarship impacts on the NROTC side. However, on another forum thread, there is a kid who was offered an AROTC scholarship that was withdrawn, supposedly due to the sequester. He has been offered a contract instead, which I assume means he'll receive the stipend. Don't know if he's going to take that. He seems a tad bitter and I can't say as I blame him.

We sill have heard nothing from second board for NROTC MO. Anyone else got any news?

I got a call this morning from the officer who handled my application and got the scholarship! Hope you guys hear soon!

For those who recieved the call with good news, congratulations. Can you tell me if your status has been updated online?

If you don't mind sharing, what were your stats majorcarte? GPA, SAT, ACT, PFT, etc.

Cat57-My online status has not changed, I got a phone call this morning

TEG-My situation is a little different since I'm already a freshman here at UNC-CH, but I'll try to give you a brief breakdown. 28 ACT 1130 SAT (math and reading). My HS GPA is a little fuzzy, but if I recall correctly it was a 3.6 and 4.3/4.4. I was EXTREMELY involved. My dad is an O-6 in the Marine Corps. Currently in school I have a 3.7, I'm on two cheer teams, two student government positions, a chair position on the Carolina Union Activities Board, and I volunteer. My PFT was a 265 I believe, and I'm an African American Female.

I also have the results of the most recent sideload scholarship board which is a stat sheet that shows how many people applied for college programmer scholarships and how many actually got it. (it's very detailed and quite helpful) If you want me to post it please let me know.

Congratulations on the scholarship. I am so nervous waiting for an answer.
If you could link that information regarding the side load scholarships it would be greatly appreciated!

Those are some great stats and Congratulations!!!! by the way. In my opinion you definitely deserve it. The side load stats would be great. I am sure there are lot's of hopefuls that would like to see them.

Congratulations. I have a pool function tonight where I'll see recruiters and the interviewing officer in person, so I've got my fingers crossed.

For some reason I can't organize the sideload spreadsheet on here like I want to. If you want the information please PM with your email address and I'll be more than happy to email you guys the spreadsheet! And good luck at your funciton tonight!

Got an email from my OSO telling me I did not receive a scholarship. Time to call my schools unit and get a college program application.
Good luck to everyone else. I am disappointed but not surprised. Just gonna press on and hope for the best.

Good News

My DS got a call today with good news - he received the NROTC MO scholarship! We are absolutely thrilled. I really want to thank the other posters on this site (Kinnem, etc) for all of their help and involvement here - I am sure many parents (like me) and candidates benefit from it.
