MARSOC and RECON after TBS

How would an intelligence officer go about getting into either MARSOC or RECON?

This is second hand info based on what my DS, who is also interested in MARSOC, has told me. Generally, and I don't know how this might vary for Intel, one cannot go to MARSOC straight from TBS. One has to do some Infantry time first. This is what I found on www.socnet.com:

You want to serve as an Marine Special Operations Team Leader? You've got a several gates you've got to go through first.

1. Become an Infantry Officer of Ground Intel officer.
2. Serve successfully in a Infantry Battalion and possibly a Reconnaissance Battalion as a Platoon Leader.
3. Pass Assessment and Selection
4. Pass Follow on training.

Infantry(0302) is a requirement to go to one of the Recon Battalions in a recon capacity. MARSOC and Recon still need CSS support and all of those MOSs are able to be assigned in spport of the actual operators. MARSOC's accession pipeline is still evolving; however, you must perform well at your first assigned FMF unit in order to be competitive for selection to A&S.

Not 100% on the requirements for officers in MARSOC WRT MOS. I know for enlisted the 03 background is no longer a prerequisite. Upon completion of MARSOS all enlisted Marines are awarded the 0372 Critical Skills Operator MOS. There is a complex reasoning behind this, and alot of it revolves around CSOs now being able to stay in MARSOC for a significant duration (multiple tours). However, officers don't rate the CSO designation and therefore don't have the same protection (could get assigned to billets in their MOS). Fairly certain that MOS background does not matter, other than ground MOS.
