Underweight a Problem on I-Day?

For my height, I barely meet the minimum weight requirement as stipulated in the instructions to appointees kit. When I weighed myself to send in my measurements to the academy for uniform sizing, I was 0.4 pounds above the minimum weight requirement. It's not that I'm skin and bones, I can exceed the averages in all of the physical fitness categories and max some, but I guess I just have a runner's build by nature. If I showed up for I-day and weighed just a couple pounds under the limit, regardless of my level of fitness, would I be at risk of being sent home?

I doubt it, they'll probably just put you on Boost or Insure in the very beginning.

i thought it was funny you brought this up because last year i received a letter from usma saying how i was technically underweight for my height because when i did my dodmerb i was about 5'11 and 128, air force never said anything and my portal still says qualified.

i still don't know the minimum weight for me but as of now im still runners build 6 foot and 141 lbs. all that lifting and gainer protein finally paid off! *sarcasm*

Thank you for the swift responses. The fact that I was almost underweight was just a bit of a shock because I generally don't keep track of it.

While I agree with above posts it wouldn't hurt to try to put some weight on prior to reporting.

No, they're not going to turn you away. They will put you on a program to monitor your weight (especially during BCT), and help you meet the standards.

For example, during BCT, I was on an extra 1000 calories of supplements per day.

It's not uncommon to lose weight during BCT. DS shed 10lbs and was given protein shakes (Boost) for the duration of BEAST. It may be a good idea to gain a little bit before I-day.

Wish I had that problem...you want 15 pounds? I'll give them to you at no charge

Seriously though, everyone I have spoken to who has gone to or is at an SA said that if you are around the limit you will be fine, and they'll have you eat more. Their major concern seems to be health and ability, so it sounds like you are probably OK. I believe they weigh everyone once a week during BCT to make sure we are not losing/gaining (who knows?) unhealthily.

My friend was 118 coming in on I-day. Now he weighs a whooping 128. My cadre made him double-fist Boost every night to put on weigh during BCT:biggrin:
