My DS status line is now principal. From what I read, this is good right?
Also was wondering what the cost is per year at USMMA and do they offer nulear engineering?

i understand there are some electives offered in Nuclear Engineering but there is no Nuclear Engineering major. Neither is there a minor, KP does not offer minors, despite that some graduates say they have a minor is XXX. The shoppers in particular used to say they had minors in Engineering ... NOT true.

When I went the cost break dows was:

4/C; $4000
3/C; $600
2/C; $700
1/C; 1200

I hear it has gone up a little since then.

He's IN!!!!

Principal means he is in right?

I am very certain that the "Principal" status is in.
MY DS's changed to "Principal" when we got the call from the MOC and then the BFE (envelope with the appointment offer) arrived in 5 days.

Mom to a 2017 USMMA Plebe Candidate Midshipman

Maybe... probably...

Principal means that if he is deemed qualified by the academy he will indeed be offered an appointment.

However, If....... his scores on the SAT/ACT are too low, or his high school grades are suspect, or he has a criminal record, or a health issue that might DQ him, then he may be excluded.

You should hear something very soon I would think. Has he passed DODMERB?

He doesn't have a criminal record or any health issues. I don't know for sure (records are at home) but I think his ACT is 28 with math at 33 and his UWGPA is 3.65. He also passed DODMERB.

Do you know what the number and letter (code) are before the "Principal" that you see online?

If his papers are all in, and he is fully medically qualified, no criminal record, and he is Principal, I believe all you need to do is wait for the Fed Ex truck to come to your door. If it comes and your son is not home, let me tell you....it will be very hard not to open it up. Don't open it. Let him. Or maybe make a trip to school and bestow the grand papers to him in between classes? Wished we'd done that, but then again, we have the opening all on video cuz we taped it at home. How sweet it was! hang in there dad.

Class of '16 cost for the 4 years was estimated at $7500, including the $1200 computer required for plebe year.

You are a principle candidate, until you sign the orders they send you, which is the acceptance of their offer for you to attend. Your spot will be held until 5/1.

NOTE to Texas Mom. I am sure someone will tell you along the way, but the official title of your DS on day zero will be "plebe candidate 2017". The word "midshipman" will not and should not appear. Best of luck to him!

Principal means you are accepted

There is no nuclear engineering

The costs are posted on the KP website, the only major expenses is about $1100 for a laptop for the first year. The majority of the other "costs' that they list are transportation back home during breaks and personal expenses, they are not really costs of attending the Academy. There is also a few hundred dollars every year for tailoring, laundry and haircuts.

John9805 Get back to us so we can officially celebrate with you and your family:beer1: or if you prefer :jerry:

Looking at the catalog, if you major in Systems Engineering there are some Nuclear Engineering Courses that are available. However the catalog is not the most recent.

Status: "principal"

If an applicant's status has changed to "principal", does that mean that the applicant will not be attending Prep School? Is Prep School still a possibility?

Sulley's Mom,

The short answer is "No. The applicant will not be attending prep school", because this is what USMMA tells Principal Candidates (found on page 1 of the 2016 Logging In Book):

PRINCIPAL CANDIDATES
Principal Candidates must report to the Academy on Thursday, 5 July 2012 between 0700 - 0830."

Granted this information was for the Class of 2016, so the date and year will be different for the Class of 2017, but the information isn't.

The Logging In Book is a wealth of information and provides all of the answers you are looking for to your questions regarding what does "Principal" mean and costs can be found on the USMMA website. The current Logging In Book on the Academy website is for class of 2016, so there may be some changes for 2017, but overall very little changes from year to year. Below is the link to the academy webpage. Look for the file called LoggingIn2016; it is an adobe file of the book that is sent to all candidates.

Congratulations!!! are in order for any candidate whose status is listed as Principal.
