It's that time of year where DS is hearing back from the colleges applied to, some yes and some no. Of the 5 schools listed on ROTC app, he did not get into 3 of them. There are still 3 schools (not on the list) that he's waiting to hear back from. Should he inform someone about this and request to change his list? (He's still waiting to hear back about whether he is getting a ROTC scholarship)

I think it is a bit late for that. 2 weeks ago would have been fine, but they have already retrieved the last information from the files to be reviewed and from the looks of other threads, they are already posting offers.

Two weeks ago he didn't have the information about the declined schools, just found out in last couple of days. And it's not that admissions aren't going well, it's just that he didn't get into some of the schools on that list, there are others he did get into and some he's still waiting to hear on.

Are you saying you want to transfer your scholarship to a school NOT listed on your top 5 list?
If so, I still think you can. The ROTC letter states:
This is what I had to do. I was awarded to UMD - CP & ERAU; requesting scholarship transfer to PSU. Also, when you send your transfer letter be sure to include a copy of the admission acceptance letter + your statement.

what do you mean copy of acceptance? When you say transfer, is this the same concept as getting put on the wait list for other schools? I was waitlisted for my assigned scholarship school's unit, but have requested waitlist for two other schools I already gained admission too... is the right idea? I was going off of what the packet said to do...
mc2000, My DS did not get into one of the out-of-state schools he applied to that was on his ROTC college choice lists and is still waiting on his selection status, too. He submitted both the original and updated/reordered list of his college choices.
For Army ROTC, he emailed the person in Cadet Command that was listed in the automatic letters that were generated notifying him of missing information prior to the scholarship deadline. She replied: "Your application was updated to reflect the new order of precedence. All applicants will be notified of the final selection NLT 30 May 2013."
For Navy ROTC, we emailed the address which is listed at the bottom of the Scholarship Application Status page which was updated on 21 Mar 2013 and informed him that the NSTC Selection/Placement Office has received his application and no decision has been made on his application. NROTC replied: "Your school choice changes have been updated."

Copy of acceptance - as in the letter that says: congrats little jimmy, you have been accepted to school X. In your case, I do not know if waitlisted letters are acceptable. Marist and Clarkson would have more knowledge about this. Best thing to do is to contact your CC POC (the name listed on EVERY single letter you get from CC informing you of missing parts to your application). Or -- even better yet; at your top school choice choice, if you haven't done so yet, get in contact with the cadre there - particularly the ROO and inform him of your situation. This allows him to know that you are interested in the program there, and should you not receive a scholarship, will give the cadre a heads up that you are interested in an IS scholarship.
Just out of curiosity, what did your DS say in the email to his CC POC?

Thompson, Here is the email DS sent to update his Army ROTC college choices. Please note that he has not been awarded any scholarships yet at this point and has applied to all of the listed colleges plus several more.

Ah! Understood. I thought you meant that he was in the process of requesting scholarship transfer to another school, and thought "Wait ... what's the point of updating that list?"
