Well I saw the post for parents booking, but I'm planning to go up to Colorado myself because of the family budget. I requested the USAFA issued plane ticket...
And I have several questions..
Will I arrive the day of or day before the I-Day?
Do I just book a hotel and use taxi service for transportation?
Is the bed and breakfast highly recommended for those traveling alone?

Thank you in advance for your inputs

You'll come the day before. Use the bed and breakfast program.

I second the Bed and Breakfast motion.

I ended up with an USAFA professor. He picked me up from the airport, took me to grab some food, watched his son's baseball practice, had a nice dinner/breakfast and sent me on my way in the morning.

I, too, am traveling to the Academy alone.

I was not aware that we were to find our own arrangements until in-processing day and elected to travel the earliest possible date (June 20th)...

I see that this was utter stupidity on my part. Should I request a date change?

Even after a ticket has been issued, request for itinerary changes must be
e-mailed to the Traffic Management Office and Admissions:

*do not call Commercial Ticket Offiec as they do not have authority to make changes to your airline ticket. Any changes to your reservation will incur an additional service fee and possible fare increase which may be the responsibility of the appointee.

p.s.
It's not a bad idea to get there a little earlier to allow yourself to acclimate.
DS arrived four days to try and get used to the altitude change but last year was bad with the fires and smoke. Air quality was extremely poor, negating any effort to run or do outside activities. Hopefully this year won't be as bad.

I cannot recommend the Bed and Breakfast program highly enough.

Our son's B&B parents picked him up at the airport, took him to their house and made him feel very at home. The next morning they took him to Doolittle Hall and stayed with him until he had to go inside. His sponsor dad is a retired Col. Academy grad who has season tickets to every sporting event at USAFA and is highly involved in the AOG. This sponsor family became my son's family for Doolie Day Out and his permanent sponsor family for his 4 years there. They visited him a lot since they were on campus for events, and he spent a lot of weekends at their house relaxing and doing laundry. They were also there for him if he needed anything and even took him up to Denver to the airport a couple of times when he needed a ride.

Thank you very much. I appreciate the advice and information. I'm certainly going to email them about a ticket change for at least a few days later; I do not want to burden another person for a week.

How does the furnished ticket work, and if I passed up on it now, can I go back and change that?

In my situation, I planned on buying my own ticket because I wanted to fly out after my graduation (6PM June 26th). The issue is, there are no flights that will get me to the Academy on time that are also after my graduation: I will have to skip it.

This is not a big deal for me, but it does mean it does not matter how much earlier I go. Is there a way I can now request a furnished ticket? How do the dates and locations for that work out?

Thank you!

P.S. I posted here because it seemed relevant to the discussion and I am also going by myself.

i plan on going by myself as well. i just got notified of my appointment so i hope i will get the option to get a ticket. how are you guys getting your tickets through afa? do you get something in the mail or will i have to call them?

It was an automatic part of the process of me accepting electronically.

The appointee packet will include instructions regarding the plane ticket. You can also opt to get a ticket on your own and they will reimburse you later on.

Sorry to bump this thread, but that email address didn't work for me...

This is from last years travel instructions. Please refer to your appointee instructions packet in case it's changed.
