I am looking to connect with the 7 others who have an Army ROTC Scholarship to Boston College  and were wait listed.

I spoke this AM with a friend who has the big local SAT/ACT test prep and college app counseling business.

He told me that the "new" thing in college admissions is figuring out ahead of time who is "likely" to enroll, if accepted. They know that with the common app, kids will apply to many schools at $50-100 a pop, of which most are back-ups. DS's best buddy (Nat'l Merit scholar finalist, 36 on ACT) was rejected by U Mich. My friend said, they didn't believe he would actually enroll.

The main goals of any admissions department are: 1. Have low acceptance rate in order to prove exclusivity of the school, 2. Have the highest yield acceptance divided by enrollment) in order to show how effective the admissions department is. Rejecting a candidate who will not enroll kills two birds with one stone.

I'm sure there is an algorithm for predicting who really will enroll...or someone trying to sell one.

My buddy suggested to those on a wait list, or even those who have been rejected, if school x REALLY is choice number 1, to call/write the school and flat out tell them that and that you will enroll if accepted. If you are being honest in that claim, you have absolutely nothing to lose.

If you haven't called, then do so.

Best of luck!:thumb:

Thank you for the response. I wrote to the Dean of Admissions about a month ago telling him BC was my #1 etc. prior to the mailing of acceptance letters. After I received the eligiblity letter this past week I requested to be added to the wait list. We have spoken with Admissions several times and was told that 7800 acceptance letters were mailed to fill 2250 spots and another 5999 kids got the same letter I received. The risk in all of this is A. Not sure there will be any openings come July B. If there are openings all wait list applicants will be ranked again for the remaining openings. They have their process and in the case of Army ROTC Scholarship recepients are sticking to it. IMHO doubtful a recruited athlete would have this problem.

Right now my only option is to request to have my scholarship transferred to one of my other choices where I have been accepted. Hopefully Army CC will allow me to transfer. Our understanding is there are 10 kids who have AROTC scholarships to BC, 2 of them were accepted, there are 8 of us in the same boat. Go figure.

Wish I could advise further.

DS is hanging out on a limb over a DoDMERB issue. Last week they asked for remedial. Got a letter today saying he is disqualified. This could drag on forever. Scholarship was to choice #1 where he was accepted. Cannot afford #1 without dinero. Plan B is very attractive, but it is not plan A and Plan B will be history if not accepted by April 15.

Believe me. No complaints. Keep plugging away.

Sorry to hear about the DoDMERB issue, thank you for taking the time to respond.

Don't expect any financial aid to show up if you are wait listed then accepted. Other than the federal stuff of course. My son was point blank told, after he had been wait listed, we will accept you but you will not receive any financial aid. It of course varies from school to school, but that is the way it works at some schools.
