This info is directly from the Director Of Admissions - it is the "Official Word" as of 27 Mar

Class size will not exceed 1200

Offered to date: 965 649 have acceped, 41 declined, 275 not yet answered (they have until April 12 to answer)

ALL candidates will know for sure if they are accepted by early May

The 218 cadets in the Prep School will be evaluated starting in late April and decisions made by about 19 May. I estimate that about 200 of these will get offers - however that number could be a little higher or lower.

About 235 will be admitted to the Prep School

Rough numbers: (These are not official) about 880 have either accepted or likely to accept. About 200 will get offers from the Prep School. Total now 1080. That leaves about 100+ more people to get offers in the next few weeks.

Good thing to know that there really is still hope for the rest of waiting. Thank you for posting this BigNick!

Wish we knew how many were actually on the NWL, but to be honest, the suspense is half the fun! Good luck to all still waiting!

Thank You

Thanks for the info! I know it's a long shot but I've avoided the TWE this long, there's still hope that I could possibly be in one of those 100 or so still left to get appointments.

I'm thankful that it's not over until I officially hear something!

Any idea on how the overall number of applicants compares to last year? Have heard anecdotally that the volume of applications this year has exceeded last year's total of 15k or so, where 2.6k were 3Q'd with nominations. Wondering if this is true?

Of course, still anxiously awaiting as my DS is on the NWL. Did get good news yesterday re: Plan B, as he received at least on AROTC scholarship

More "Official" numbers

Files Started 15,404
Nominations 4,123
Qualified (Q) 1902 (qualified and nominated)

Therefore I estimate (not official) that about 700 (good guess) remain on the NWL. About 100-150 of these will get offers. If you have not received a Qualified Not Selected (QNS) letter you are still in the running for these 100+ slots

Thanks for the update. Really helpful.

On a related note, at what point are (New) prep school candidates notified?

The Class of 2016 profile indicates:

15,171 open files
4285 nominated
2629 qualified -727 fewer qualified candidates this year than last

1191 - Accepted appointment

Prior service appointments??

I have zero idea if this kind of information is even available, but does anyone have a sense of the number of remaining appointments for prior service applicants? With so much change in the cycle this year, I wonder where the bulk of those appointments fall in the schedule... and I'm curious.

Thanks,
RLTW

BigNick - thanks for all the info (and to others as well). Funny how all these numbers won't mean much to those who are waiting a few weeks from now when final decisions are made, but it's like manna in the desert right now.

A couple of other questions - will the 235 offers for the Prep School go to folks on the NWL as well, or can these be extended to others who weren't otherwise 3Q'd this time around?

Also, the 2,629 showing as qualified on the 2016 class profile - did all of these folks have noms as well, or is that a smaller number? (wondering if last year's 2,629 number can be fairly compared to the 1,902 qualified w/noms for this year).

I was also wondering when my son was going to get his TWE. Our area only allows for one nomination and he was nominated to a different S.A.-so with no nomination I am surprised the TWE hadn't come by now.

BigNick,
When do the QNS letters go out? How do we know if our DD is on the NWL?

Our DD received a letter in January that she is qualified (academically, passed DoDMERB exam & the CFA with a nomination) and her name would be added to the NWL. If you did not receive a letter I would suggest contacting your RC.

My opinion about QNS is we still have time before they go out. The information Big Nick provided indicated that the pool of qualified candidates has dropped 727 as compared to last year with the same projected class size of 1200.

In the case of our DD's, female candidate numbers are typically small to being with i.e.,

Class of 2012 had 282 females qualified out of a total pool of 1919 - 15%
Class of 2016 had 438 females qualified out of a total pool of 2629 - 16.6%

There was some discussion that USMA was going to increase female appointments from 15% to closer to 18% this year, not sure if that is fact or fiction.

No idea how many young wonen are in the qualified pool this year but I think it is safe bet there is a relative small number of candidates to select from.

Good luck to your daughter.

You might not receive any more contact from West Point. Unfortunately, not receiving a nomination by the nomination deadline ends the admissions process for most candidates. I believe the deadline was 31 January.

Are all appointments now being given to kids on the NWL? And I'm assuming the numbers given are all to date with the most recent acceptances as of last Tuesday, since the official announcement went out Wednesday.

So sorry. He sounds like a great kid and I know you are very proud of him.
No one on SAF can tell you why he is QNS. It would all be just speculation.

If he decides to re-apply, have him contact his RC to let him know that he is re-applying and to ask the RC where his file fell short.

Best wishes to him as he follows his Plan B.

First of all, thank you for the updated information! I have a question about this statement you made, BigNick:

ALL candidates will know for sure if they are accepted by early May

Does this mean that those who aren't accepted will all receive QNS's by then? I know in past years there have been a few additional candidates accepted through June, and you always hear those stories of the ones accepted the weekend before R-day. Is that not going to happen this year?

Honestly, at this point I would feel better knowing for sure that I'll have an answer by May. I just want to KNOW already; the waiting is killing me!

Good luck to everyone else stuck with me in the waiting boat!
