Can anyone tell me when Acceptance Day will be this year?

What about Doolie Day Out?

Thanks!

I do not see the firm date yet in the Master Calendar. Historically, Doolie Day Out falls on transition day between 2nd and 3rd summer periods. This allows the cadet leadership to transition in/out and the basic cadets are not around.

At the moment, this is set for Saturday July 13th 2013.

The Acceptance Parade will generally occur during Transition Days once the wing has returned. This year, it appears the wing is due back by 1900 on August 3rd 2013. The parade would fall sometime between Aug 4-7.

School starts on August 8th.

And if you can go, GO! Yes, it is about 2 hours with your cadet, and yes, it is expensive, and yes, if funds are tight save them up for PW. But if you can go, GO! There was no greater pride than seeing my daughter accepted, seeing her in her blues for the first time, giving her a great big hug after what was the biggest challenge of her life...and she was so stoked to see us, even for those 2 hours. We brought enough food for her 2 hometown friends whose parents couldn't make it (we're from Hawaii) and enough for her to distribute out to her friends in her squad and it was wonderful. We took it out of the "...so we're not paying for college..." fund.
But of course, I know...it's an expensive lunch.

Yes, I am planning on going. I really enjoyed it when my DS was accepted in 2005. It was surprising to find him about 25 pounds lighter than he was when we dropped him off! His pants were falling off! He was one skinny FB player for awhile. HA!
Now, he is stationed at Peterson, so I can make the most of the trip :) This is going to be fun!!!

Sorry....preaching to the choir! But I'm glad you share my sentiment and other folks as well think about going!

Can you tell me what this is exactly? The kids get through BCT and have a ceremony before parent's weekend?

After the cadets complete BCT, they are "accepted" into the cadet wing and are now cadets (albeit doolies) and no longer consider "basics". During BCT, they are never referred to as cadets, only as "basics". There is a parade on the parade field and a bunch of flutter back and forth about how the BCT squadrons will line up, where to sit, etc. We met some nice parents of my daughter's squadmates while waiting for the parade. The newly accepted cadets are then dismissed and their shoulder boards are pinned on by BCT cadre that they request, then they get to hang out with you for a couple of hours and eat lunch before they have to report back to the squadron. You an accompany them into their squadron and help carry stuff they asked for (extra blanket, towel, shower caddy, printer, etc.) and then they escort you out of the cadet area after too short a time. I think I got it all...other parents, chime in.

A few more comments on A-Day
  • I didn't go due to work obligations but my wife just loved it (seeing her son, the parade, and the Falcon mascot up close)
  • Lunch with your cadet is on base wherever you can find space (lawn, parking lot, Fieldhouse, etc)
  • Bring extra food for your cadet's squadmates whose parents couldn't come
  • Some cadets go shopping with their parents at the Cadet Store for additional items they need but as has been said you can bring stuff to them at this point
  • Our cadet enjoyed just being with family
  • It's short and expensive but a fun time

Probably be the day for the Superintendent's change of command ceremony also. That will generate a lot more pomp and ceremony and probably a visit by CSAF Welsh as the officiating officer.

I believe my daughter was given her phone back for Acceptance Day and first thing in the morning she texted me a list of stuff to pick up for her before we made our way to the parade grounds. The Cadet Store is certainly available but it tends to be pricey and the kids would rather eat and hang out than shop. I recall that they also got their computers between the end of BCT and A-Day so the first email also included a list of things to bring, including specs on printers (C4Cs are restricted on these things; it's squad to squad so don't do anything on that front without specific instruction from your C4C).
I give you these tidbits because like many of you I wanted maximum time with my cadet and minimal time doing admin stuff, and knowing how to "mobilize" for the day certainly made the short time worthwhile.

A day

I would echo how wonderful it was to be at A day. Great to see my son so comfortable and fitting into his new home. We were able to communicate with others in his flight and had a catered lunch for around 15 families in Arnold Hall, worked out great and got to meet a lot of his current squad-mates.

Melinda, the 'I'm not paying for college fund' is what I used also, but have used it many times...

My understanding is that Doolie Day Out this year is July 28th, after Jack's. There could be a 'Doolie Day In' before the trip to Jack's, this would be at the transition from 2nd to 3rd summer session for the uppers (cadre).
