Hello, I am a USMMA Sponsored Prep for NMMI and wanted to know if there was anything I should be aware of before starting August 1st, 2013.

NMMI

Best avenue to take is to go directly to NMMI website and get information from there and contact them directly.

It is a great experience at NMMI. My DD was a self-prep at NMMI--a great way to start your career there. They will 'get you ready.'

If there was one main piece of advice you could give me while attending NMMI, what would it be?

NMMI

ACADEMICS and getting use to ACADEMY / MILITARY LIFE STYLE.

You will NOT live like your buddies that are going to a 'regular' college. Academy Life is much, much more RESTRICTIVE. Certainly NOT unbearable,
but vastly different. If you have been in JROTC in your high school...it is like that but 24 / 7.

Roswell, the city, is also quite a 'trip'. My DD was convinced that the Area 51
Aliens never left the area.....:yllol: Great people and they like the NMMI cadets.

You didn't say where you were from....NM can be a shock for any 'Eastener' or
"Californian". At least there is a Walmart!!! THUS:

I am from Miami, Fl so I am use to diversity. I am also in NJROTC and have completed four years of the program. I found out that I was accepted as a Sponsored Prep sometimes in February I believe. I am use to the "keeping your room spotless" thing and I am familiar with military terminology and what not. How rigorous are the academics there? Is the tutoring for preps really good?

I am. Currently, I am the lacrosse goalie recruited by Coach Gill, I have already attended one year of prep school after being denied my first year. However, I specifically asked my coach if he would put me on the list for applicants intrested in attending NMMI this coming year. Hopefully, it will show my dedication to the Academy and let them know how serious i am about attending. Honestly, I dont care how or when I get in, as long as I eventually do receive my appointment. Sorry for the rant, Ive had that on my mind for awhile. :)

so you are going on a second year of prep? Because I believe you can only do one year o.0 Sorry your post is just a little confusing. Are you a senior in high school at NMMI? or are you planning to attend this August?

NJROTC will help you. You will be ahead of many of the others in Military Bearing. Funny incident: My DD had been in AJROTC and Battalion Commander her Sr. year. A 2nd year actually corrected her At Ease position...that was quite a joke for our family.

Study hours are mandatory from 6:30 - 10:00 each weekday nite. They are supervised and not necessarily in your room. The tutors will be either your teachers or 2nd year (Sophomore) students. The classes are rigorous, but there is opportunity (as at USMMA) for expert help.

mperri215,
I once moved from Florida to Colorado. Your nose is in for a big adjustment! it was so dry relative to Florida that my nose bled ( a teensy bit daily) for months! You may find a hot steamy shower is your new favorite thing in life just to take a deep breath. I wonder if they allow small humidifiers? That may be something your parents can send you down the road.
Been me up,

Im sorry I should have made myself more clear. I attended a civilian prep school thats not associated with NMMI or USMMA. I did not attend NMMI, but since I am currently applying, my coach put me on the list for NMMI this year. In other words, i would be doing 2 years of prep school, but only one as a sponsored prep at NMMI.Make sense?

2 years SELF Prep

My DD was a SELF Prep (unsponsored) for 2 years at NMMI graduating with an Associates Degree in Math and Science with Honors.

She was not even aware of USMMA until she went there and met an adult sponsor who had graduated from USMMA.

Her biggest advantage was that she had gone to NMMI and that she was 2 years older than her classmates when she got to USMMA. The extra maturity time worked to her advantage all 4 years.

ohhh I see well, I hope you get in and will end up at USMMA. What career choice are you making upon graduation?

Well I have already take pretty hot showers, hopefully my nose wont be so sensitive but thanks for the heads up! (Get it?)

Am I able to go to other barracks for tutoring sessions with other preps during that time?
