If a ICSP Scholarship Cadet doesn't get selected for SFT, what happens? I am already contracted in the AF Reserve, will I have to pay back the money, or go on AD? How many Cadets on scholarship aren't selected each year? Will this year be different because of the cuts?

Don't quote me on this but I am 90% sure that if you have done everything "right" (Passed PFA, have above a 2.5 GPA, and have been nominated for FT) they will let you walk away from the program with the first two years of your college paid for with no need to pay back the USAF if you are not selected for FT. Atleast this is what I remember from last year...I would check with PIMA though.

You have a contract - what does it say?

With Army and Navy ROTC 4-year scholarship candidates, the obligation starts the first day you start in your sophomore year. In other words, the first year is "free" but start year 2 and you assume a contract.

I don't think that answers your questions directly but I hope it is a start.

I'm confident Powers is right but Pima would be the authoritative source, or someone else more familiar with AFROTC. You might check her past appends as I'm sure it has come up before. Good luck wading through all that though!

That being said, USMCGrunt is also correct. You have a contract that I'm sure addresses your question. Read it. Read it carefully.

Okay, so the technicality is that once you commit, you have to pay it back or serve some years of service if you break that. No matter your reason for breaking the binded contract, you will be placed on review for disenrollment. In the case that you simply did not receive an EA, 99% of the time they will more than likely just let you go, and ask for no service or money back.

+1 cralor,

If you are not selected 99% of the time they will just let you walk.

USMC and kinnem are also right. If you opt to leave after being selected for SFT you owe the money back or go ADAF, but the catch is they decide which you will do. Typically in the past few yrs they forced the cadet to pay back.

If the selection is like previous years, scholarships are "blind" to the FT board, which means that they play no factor in getting selected over a non-scholarship cadet that has been nominated for Field Training.

I am not sure/don't think those records of scholarship cadets not getting an EA are disclosed.

I agree with power, I have never sen any number disclosed because of the fact that is blind when it comes to selection.

I have heard of cadets not getting SFT, but it really came down to the fact that their cgps was barely above the min. When you hover in that 2.5 range it really doesn't matter whether you are on a scholarship or not, because either way you are not safe.

This yr is truly different. Don't go down this path of dis-enrollment. Yrs prior it occurred not because of the SFT budget, but from HQ regarding manpower needs. They only dis-enrolled maybe 3-5% of all of the cadets that went up for the board.

What do you know about this year regarding SFT on the whole? Will the numbers of cadets selected for SFT be different? Thanks!

There is a very long thread going AFROTC EA/SFT allotments.

I do not sit on any board, I just belong/lurk on a couple of AF boards. I know nossing when it comes to numbers.

The rumor is 2100-2200 were selected, and it was going to be around the same rate as last yr....94%. Now due to sequestration, the rumor is they are dropping that number to 1500.

These are rumors only, and come the time results are released you could find out that they had a 95% rate.

Honestly, I have never seen a 100% rate, but if cadets fall in range with cgpa, SAT/ACT/AFOQT and pft they traditionally will get selected. It is when their cgpa is low...hovering just above the scholarship min that they don't get selected.
