Sorry for a stupid question

But, if you just a NARP, are you able to work out in like an actual gym facility? Like with aerobic machines and everything?

I'm aware of the fact that the cadets work out with PT and everything, but when you aren't in your sport, do you just like run outside or something...?

i believe you are required to do at least an intramural sport no matter what?...

The cadet gym has free weights, cybex machines, cardio, and most other equipment you'd expect in a gym.

Intramural sports are at most 2x per week during their approx. 6 week season. Frankly, they're a joke.

Our new gym (opened last May) is very nice and more than adequate for workouts.

Back in MY day.....

Even I can say that...*sigh* guess I'll have to go back and teach to check it out!

Yep, you just have to wear your issued PT gear as you won't be allowed to have civilian clothes.

Are there a lot of restrictions to where a cadet can run on the campus? I know there's a nice trail right outside the entrance, but as doolies would we be able to use that trail?

The air force academy is the 2nd largest "Land Mass" university in the country, with 18,000 acres. You don't need to to go outside the gate to go running. And for what it's worth, it's almost a 10+ minute DRIVE from the main gate to the TZO. By the time you tried to run from the TZO to the main gate, you wouldn't want to run any more. But you pretty much have access to most of the 18,000 acres. You won't leave the campus to "Run". If you leave the campus, it's to probably get REAL FOOD or some other enjoyment.

Marathon club does often use that trail (Santa Fe) fairly often for weekend long runs. Other than that, I've never needed to use that trail during the week. Plenty of variety in places to run from the cadet area or gym.

for running shoes did you bring/wear them on i-day or have them brought to you in the year?

I wore mine on I-day and then when we changed into uniforms they went away with my civies until after basic. We had to wear the issued shoes during basic, but maybe that has changed (2016 cadets?)
