I am a USMMA Sponsored Prep. If you are a Prep for this upcoming year please post. :thumb:

I am a sponsored prep to NMMI for the USMMA. I would like to hear from anyone who has gone through the program and went on to USMMA.

USCGA sponsored Preps go to Marion. USMMA sponsored Preps go to NMMI. Self Preps/free agents go where they want.

To the NMMI sponsored preps (all academies). Stay tuned for some developements. NMMI will be enrolling you in an ALEKS math course this summer to help prepare you for the regular college courses. ALEKS is a very good system and the USAFA uses it also.

Will taking the college placements exams for NMMI affect my class scheduling in anyway for being a sponsored USMMA Prep?

You will need to take the NMMI placement exams in math, physics, and chemistry. I'll look at the results of those tests, your eight-semester high school transcript, and all your standardized test scores (ACT/SAT).

After we have all that I'll build your class schedule. Chemistry, physics, and English have two different starting points. Math has three. The idea is to give you classes that will "stretch" but not "kill" you. Woun't want to "bore" you either!

Sounds great! As a Sponsored Prep, is there a certain GPA I must uphold in order to hold on to my spot as USMMA? The classes that I do qualify for, does it affect my slot for USMMA in anyway?

I'll answer this for you and any other MMA sponsored preps lurking out there.
Here is what happens - Captain Johnson (Dir. of Admissions @ USMMA) flys out here. We will get you all in one place and he will hand you a copy of your contract with the USMMA. He will read it to you word for word, and ask if there are any questions. After the questions you will sign/date the contract. We make a copy for you while he keeps the original. In that contract will be GPA and other requirements.

It's not my place to "upstage" CAPT Johnson (a retired Army COL) and give you advance knowledge. The contract is very "doable" and there is nothing weird or unusual in it. I will say that you need to be working NOW with both Senators and your Congressman to obtain a nomination for the Class of 2018. Your old nom (class of 2017) is "dead".

Please call me if you would like clarification.

Already sent in my applications for both of my state senators and my congressman. I look forward to meeting you and beginning the school year at NMMI. Thank you for your advice.

I do not think so, but do not quote me on that. My admissions officer informed me earlier this month that near the end of the month the admissions would start evaluating candidates for the prep school. He said they have to get through the fully-qualified candidates first. Are you hoping for a slot at NMMI? I am!

Me too! I'm in NC, and our state had problems with EOC scores, so the transcripts from last semester are not ready, still!! They don't have GPA or class rank, so I have not turned in my 7th sem. Grades yet.

Nothing Yet

Hope this qualifies an authoritative answer.

NMMI does not have the list from the USMMA on who will be comming next year (2014-2015). We do not usually recieve it until May, after it is finalized. Past lists had approx. 40 names on it.

Other than waiting here is what you can (and should) do:
1. Start your nomination process with both Senators and Congressman again. If you had a nom for the class of 2018 it is DEAD and must be redone.
2. Keep taking your ACT and SAT's trying to improve your scores (especially in math and English).
3. Get into a physical execise routine that emulates the items you will be tested on during the CFA. You will be taking that test again.
4. Continue builing your resume with community service, leadership positions, and academic achievment.

Any questions?

The usmma sponored me for nmmi and offered $2000 per semester. Any idea on how much I will be paying for a whole year at nmmi?

As a sponsored prep you should qualify for in-state or resident tuition at NMMI which is about $7500 1st semester and $5000 for the second for 2014/15. Deduct the scholarship from USMMA ($4000) and I believe if you qualify for any FASFA help you can apply that as well.

Actually the difference between in-state and non-resident is $4,945 for the entire year. Sponsored USMMA Preps do receive a scholarship from Kings Point of $2,000 per semester. The scholarship in the second semester is based on first semester GPA.

You can go to https://www.nmmi.edu/business/newcosts.htm for the AY14-15 cost break down. This list does not include text books. There are so many variables that it would be hard to nail down an exact number. On the high side (just to be safe) I'd estimate tesxt book costs to be about $1k for the year.

NMMI bound

DS received USNA AOG scholarship for NMMI. He is looking forward to his year there then on to USNA in 2015.
