End of another year

A lot of cadets/mids are entering the last week of school for this year. Time sure has a way of speeding by. It's fun to look back at what all these cadets and mids have done, and the experiences they have had.

Some will be graduating and commissioning this year, others moving up to the next class to take on more responsibility and duties. Congratulations to those graduating and best of luck to those moving up.

Many will have a busy summer with training opportunities, good luck to all of you.

For all you first and second year cadet/mids moving up next year, keep up the good work, work out hard this summer and come back next year ready to excel from day one. Everyone here is very proud of what you all have accomplised.

It would be great to hear about the cadets and mids, what the summer plans are, and how things are going so far. New applicants might get a kick out of hearing what cadets and mids have done during the year and what they have coming up.

Just have to give Kudos to the Chrisman Battalion MS2's they had their end of the year recorded APFT today, the class average was 304, great job guys, they beat the MS3's who had an average of 300.9. Their PMS is really big on PT.
 
DS received notice yesterday that he will report to San Diego for Navy CORTRAMID in under 3 weeks! We were certain he would attend East due to our location. DS name Outstanding 4/C of his platoon, 2nd semester (and 1st)!

We witnessed Commissioning ceremony this morning -very moving. On the way home he told us he wants his grandfather (my DF) to be his first salute. Tears of joy...

That's an amazing average PFT. Me.... I can't even count that high. :rolleyes:

Congrats to you DS. That's quite an accomplishment 2 semesters running! :thumb:
 
DS will actually be home for a few days when exams are complete before heading back to campus to work as a freshman orientation leader until early July. We're still hoping to hear on dates for a cruise with an amphib unit when the job ends. He served as Platoon Sergeant this semester and has gotten glowing evaluations. I actually got to see his eval while his Platoon CO (a MECEP) was in the room. The Gunny said that "sophomores don't get numbers like that!". He'll be serving as a Company XO in the fall and won the American Legion Award for Military Excellence this year. He has far exceeded anything I hoped he would achieve in NROTC with 2 more years to go.

Congrats to everyone on their successes this year, and I'm sure that lessons were learned from the failures everyone experienced as well. I always keep in mind a quote from a Sergeant at USMC OCS. "When you come here you need to be prepared. You will fail, you will succeed. It's what you do with those successes and failures that demonstrate your character and your ability to lead Marines".

Hope everyone has a great summer and successful summer training.

Wow kinnem! That's great! Very happy for your DS!
 
Good to hear everyone had such a great year!

DS has finished exams and will be home late Sunday - NG drill this weekend - the MSII year complete. Summer will be amazing, having him home is a huge blessing after last summer being BCT. He's working for our community taking care of fire hydrants throughout our rural areas and planning to run, run and run some more so that he starts off MSIII year with a good APFT score :smile:

Seems like just yesterday we were one of the families waiting to see how this path would develop and now its all about LDAC and the importance of the upcoming year for PMS evaluations and seriously thinking about branching and active duty vs guard....

Hope to see even more great news from everyone:thumb:
 
Son had a busy Sophomore year, he was a Student Body Senator this year, Administrative Rep for ROTC (It was Army's turn this year), and Inter Fraternal Greek Rep for his Chapter. For ROTC he was Color Guard Commander first semester, they gave him a break with no position for the second semester. Took 2 weeks off school and attended Winter Mountain Warfare School in Feb. He was honored to receive the Superior Cadet Award last week, he will start out next year as CO.

Not much time to rest, he'l be heading to CDQC middle of May, been training hard, he's done with school now but is staying til the end so he can use the pool and gym. Nobody can ever be sure about this school, I know he'll try his best.

Son has had a great year, not just with ROTC but with school itself, even more then any accomplishments, it's been the personal growth, the desire to do more and learn more that makes us proud. It seems all the kids on this board have that same drive, it's so great to hear about what everyone is doing.

As Ohio said, next year it all gets turned up a notch. Best of luck to all of you, Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force.

Whew! Busy boy! I'm worn out just reading about it! Looks like he has big challenges, which I know he'll meet and exceed the rest of this calendar year. CO! CDQC! Awesome. Hope he gets to enjoy Key West some, but then what is Key West without plenty of time in the water! Good luck to your DS jcleppe! I know you'll enjoy whatever time you have with him this summer.
 
DS is finishing up finals before heading to Myrtle Beach with all the greeks from UVA for a few days. Had a very busy semester with 19 credits, president of fraternity and all of the nrotc duties so he is ready for a short break. He recieved an EOD summer cruise in July so he can check out if they like him and see if he likes EOD. If he doesn't, he will switch #1 choice to pilot. One of the negatives of college programmers is that they don't get to do 3rd and 2nd class cruises to see in person all of the potential service occupations. Most of his classmates have said its the highlight of nrotc.
 
Wrapping up things down here as well. I'll have a few weeks of summer then I'm off to LDAC. Once I graduate LDAC, I'll have about 12 hours to report for CTLT. I'll wrap up CTLT and have a couple of days before the next semester begins. It's been fun and busy, and doesn't look to be slowing down anytime soon. Best of luck to everyone in whatever they are doing this summer.

Congrats on the excellent years and busy summer plans to all! :thumb:

DD is finishing up the last of her Company Leadership rotations (Company Commander presently) and heading into dead week. Had her final APFT Thursday morning and found out shortly after one of the cadets on the Color Guard was in the hospital, so she volunteered to cover the duties at a MLB game on the other side of the state that evening. Fortunately her job was cancelled for the afternoon and she emailed her afternoon professor. She gets to explain how going to a baseball game is an an excuse for missing class next week (prof knows she is in ROTC, but it will be a good ribbing :wink:). Got back from the game at 2:30 AM. Long day.

Her summer is set with her flying from home to LDAC in early July, then onto her CTLT, before flying from there to school, because classes start 2 days later, so she can't fly home and drive back. Goaliedad gets to drive her car 1000 miles to meet her at the airport 2 hours from her school and fly himself home. Of course, I get to stop along the way and attend my fantasy football draft and hang out with old friends, but that's OK :thumb:.

Sounds similar to my DD, a nursing major who just finished her MSIII year. She has 6 weeks of summer school, (2) days later has to report to LDAC and then the same day LDAC ends, has to head to Ft Sam Houston for a nursing rotation. She will have (1) week off before her senior/MS-IV year starts up.

My son has (2) weeks left on his MS-I year. He enjoys ROTC and is looking forward to next year. The battalion had their last PT testing this past week and my son had the highest score all year for the entire battalion....339 or 340.

Great job!!

My son scored a 340 as well, I told him "Wow" that must be the highest, he said nope, he was third, a freshman MS1 got a 362. I have no idea what they feed them in Idaho.

Your son should be proud, cadre love those scores, he's putting himself in a great position for a school next summer.

DS went from rejected for NROTC scholarship, and USNA to going to Plan D college and "trying" AROTC. Three months after enrollment he was awarded a 4 year campus based scholarship, made the army 10 miler team, ran a half marathon with his batallion, did the DC Ruck challenge and will study Russian this summer for 8 weeks through Project GO. Along the way, he was dq'd on a PFT (for picking up his foot during pushups and not sliding it) which landed him in remedial pt, and being told one day prior to his scholarship board that he was not a participating cadet due to a paperwork snafu. Ah, reslience, answered both challenges, and had a great year.

Congrats to your DS. Quite a string of accomplishments despite the minor hurdles! That'll teach to to try to keep a good man down!!! :thumb:

340 is impressive, 362 is an incredible score.
