AFROTC mom of a 2012 grad that is at UPT. Wife of a now retired AF O5.
Go CGA!
Unless you want fighters, GO CGA.
AFROTC has a make or break yr, their sophomore yr. No SFT = no commissioning. AFROTC scholarship is considered "masked". IOTW the board has no clue which cadet is on scholarship, and which cadet is not on scholarship.
Even if you want fighters, understand the chances are very slim. ROTC on a whole has a much lower retention rate, way below 50%.
AF flying world from start to finish, you are looking at about 5% get fighters.
Finally, if flying is your dream, than investigate how long you have to stay in after you wing. AF is 10 yrs.
Our DS is at UPT. His clock will not start ticking until Mar 2014. He will be 34 before he can bolt, regardless of what airframe he gets.
OBTW, I have to say CG has much better locations than the AF regardless of going rated.
AF:
Why Not Minot? Freezin is in the Reason (you can be sent to ND)
OH MY GOD NO ALAMOGORDO!
That is before we discuss bases in S Korea, Idaho, AK, MS and TX. Our DS is at a base the AF commonly calls Hell Rio! (Laughlin AFB, DEL RIO)
CG has much better stations.
I bleed AF blue, and I am sure LITS is falling off his chair reading this post by me saying go CGA!
However, I am being the devils advocate IMPO. I am saying think!
Do I think our DS took the wrong choice? No! DS wanted fighters, and he was willing to risk it all. You have to decide for yourself are you willing to risk everything with no guarantee?
