So me and my GF are both quite enthusiastic about our upcoming military careers and both of us are very competitive people. We tend to get into friendly "discussions" about which of our selected branches and schools are better

I am AROTC at The Citadel and she will report to USNA as a member of the class of 2017 this summer, I was wondering if any of ya'll veteran forum-ers and current AD members had any advice or possibly any creative comebacks to energize my creative juices for these inter-service spats we love getting into, I promise no punches are thrown yet

I just want a few cards up my sleeve to hold me over for the Army-Navy game or worse.....if USNA plays El Cid

Honestly, you better be speaking sweet sweet honey every time you meet, because she's got the pick of the litter at USNA. Three-four guys for every one female.... yes, you better give in to whatever she says because her offs are better at USNA than yours are at the Citadel. Trust me.

Well; the fact that NEITHER of you are "Air Force" already puts both of you at a major disadvantage when it comes to having an educated debate..... So, you're on your on.

Don't the females love the southern gentleman. He probably has an advantage over the USNA males with being a southern gentleman and in the Army.

Bulldog, I think USNA has the Citadel for womens soccer this year. Perhaps you can visit her.

Being in the south doesn't make him a southern gentleman.

And even if the ladies do like him, there are 5 others to chose from. He only has 1/5 of a girl to compete for.

The good news is, although it's not PC.... even the ugly cadets/midshipmen (men and women) start too look better as you go through your college career. At CGA we called it "academy goggles."

I wouldn't worry too much about the rivalry. LITS is right. She's headed to one of the world's biggest sausage parties. In a year she probably won't be around for the argument.

Can't help but think there was a more appropriate way to make this point.

We are talking about a 19 year seeking friendly advice on a lighthearted topic concerning the love of his life.... and this is what comes back?

Oh and I'm sure someone will make it his fault because "he can't handle the truth, not my problem" or some other variation of that tired and miopic rebuttal.

But seriously, did we really need to make the point and in that manner?

Myopic. Not miopic.

I suppose being told to grow up a bit is a tired rebuttal if you've heard it enough.

This is why I didn't want to attend a SA or SMC.

Scout,

Thanks for the reminder to check spelling before posting.

On a different note...

Guy 1: "Wish I could find a way to spend more time with my daugther and build a stronger relationship. Maybe I''ll take her fishing, what do you think?"

Guy 2: "Why bother? By the time she's a teenager she will have probably had oral sex with multiple guys, think your'e an a-hole, and have considered suicide"

(pause)

Guy 2: "What??? By the odds it's the truth. Can't handle the truth? You should grow up and face it"

If I'm out of line, then I apologize. Sincerely.

But I believe the analogy above does represent what happened to the OP... and continues to happen more than it should IMO.

One of the hardest lessons I've learned in my half-century on this earth, is that believing you are "right" or speaking the "truth" as you understand it, doesn't relieve you of the burden of how you make others feel when you share it.

On a more serious note: you could use this one:

“I have no problem calling you ‘Skipper.’ I just think of you
as Barbie’s little sister.”
