Does anyone know how favorable a deployment looks on a prior service application? Do service academies specifically look for enlisted personal with deployments under their belts? Any help would be appreciated

Laxkeeper20 I really think it depends on who you ask and who's evaluating your application.

Honestly, going on deployment can't hurt. For example, your experiences on deployment could potentially be used to address one of the essay prompts for your application. I don't believe that service academies "look" for someone with a deployment on record nor do they favor someone who does. Again, while a deployment may provide a good experience in and of itself, I don't believe it's a requirement. Hope this answers your question!

West Point likes "combat" vets, but it doesn't matter as there are not enough qualified soldier applicants to use deployments as a discriminator. Typically, West Point appoints 40 to 60 soldiers out of 85 authorized. So until they get 86 qualified soldiers applicants, deployment is not factor.

Yes SAs about producing leaders. Regardless of your leadership abilities, if you can't meet the academic requirement you are no use to the SAs.

What is important is not a deployment but the enlisted evaluation that covers that deployment. If your performance is mediocre, forget any academies.
