DS left for San Diego yesterday. Flight was cancelled out of Chicago, so he had to scramble to get onto another flight. He was told by the airline that he would have to wait for the same flight the next day. When he reached Unit command they told him to show his orders and military id and tell them he had to get to San Diego that same day. Not sure he made it to San Diego before midnight, but he sent me a text that he was in San Francisco at 1:15am ET, 10:15pm PT. We left home for the airport at 7:30am ET, so he had a looooong day.

Well, now he knows what to do in that situation :thumb:

@jiller59 - Love those summer whites. Will be anxiously awaiting reports on the thrills and tribulations of CORTRAMID!

I grew up seeing photos of my dad in his marine uniform (he was naval reserve by the time I could remember anything). Yes, I like the navy summer whites, but loved seeing my dad in photos in his marine dress blues. He took my mom to her high school prom in his uniform and was married in his uniform too.

Well, the Marine dress blues are in a whole other category! :thumb: But the NROTC kids look pretty damned sharp in those summer whites.

DS sent an email letting us know he arrived on base at 0200 (0500 ET), 21.5 hours after leaving home! Was out of bed by 0530 to start the day. Briefed on the coming 4 weeks, passed his aviation physical and had on base liberty Friday. Were told there would be PRT Saturday morning, then a beach picnic. Not sure the plans Sunday, but a visit to San Diego zoo was planned for Monday. So a fairly relaxing introduction before shipping out for Marine week this morning

Yesterday was the 1st Memorial Day parade that we attended without him since 1994 - it was bittersweet. But we started a new tradition by taking our grandson with us for the 1st time!

Glad he successfully fought through the obstacles getting there. My, my, what a leisurely start! I'm sure Marine week will have him on his toes! Looking forward to future updates. Good luck to him.
