I read in the Webguy forum that car registration can be a headache in Colorado even though it may be purchased in CO...so any insight would be appreciated for regarding this scenario:
My DS just purchased a nice USED 4WD SUV yesterday in Salt Lake City, Utah for under $9K I may proudly add:shake:...he will to be home (Hawaii) June 3rd for the 1st period and plans to head back to SLC and drive the SUV back to CS with another cadet for Summer Ops etc...he hasn't transferred title yet since he plans to register/transfer the title in Colorado. Is there anything else he needs beside the title and bill of sale to transfer to his name in CO in three weeks? He wanted to transfer title/registration in Hawaii but I think its a problem since the car is physically not here and it would require a Safety Check clearance. I'm concerned that he may run into problems since he's NOT a resident of CO and the vehicle was bought out of state and currently not under his name etc...should he transfer the title to his name in Utah since the car is bought in Utah? Or will he be ok when he gets to CO?

I bought my Ltmobile in January and did the registration this past March. I'm a non-CO resident, but did buy the car in state. For me, the process was painless. I took the title, taxes, and whatever else was provided by the dealership along with proof of insurance, and the DR2667 (mentioned below), and I was out of there in about 30 minutes. Unfortunately, I do not want to hazard a guess about where to get the vehicle titled in his name. What I can add is that once the title is in order, he needs to bring the DR 2667 with him to the DMV. This form is a military exemption form that will save him some fees. All it requires is an AOC/AMT signature and a copy of orders that can be picked up from the cadet personnel office. Also, make sure he goes to the DMV in uniform. Doing that will get him bumped to the front of the line and save a fair bit of time.

We will be visiting our now C2C DD this coming week and she has asked us to help her look for a used car to buy. Just curious EagleDriver why your son purchased his vehicle in Salt Lake City?

He is in SLC as best man/witness to his HS friends wedding in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. We also have family members in SLC and his cousin and a Toyota mechanic friend checked out a particular SUV he really wanted and it was everything he wanted for a great price. I can't tell you how happy my son is to finally be allowed to have a car of his own back at USAFA...:shake:

Also, on a side note, this past graduation was a little sentimental for him because that was his original class. He left after completion of his Freshman yr to go on a 2 year LDS Church Mission. He had a lot of friends in that class also that he went through in the most challenging times :thumb:

"buffalo" Thank you for the heads up regarding the exemption form...I totally forgot about that...and best to you at UPT..
