My DS absolutely loved it! Every minute. He said the sessions were very informative (can't remember what he called them) seeing the wind tunnels, the boats, the seamanship stuff. He knows a lot more about the navy as well, not just the academy, so that was great. He loved his midshipman leadership, he said they were very fair and easy to talk to. He said it was cool toward the end of the week, as everyone settled in, he could really see the easy camraderie amongst the MIDS and how well they knew each other and worked so well together.
Take a little bottle of tide for washing in the sink (he said only one PT shirt) and hangers for drying. Bags for sandy clothes. Plenty of socks and underwear, no need for civvies except for the trip home. Didn't need spending money other than in the airport.
He also had a good time at the airport, after everyone went their separate ways to check bags, etc, a big group of them found each other and all had dinner while waiting for their flights. He said this was great to get each other's opinions and thoughts about the week.
