USNA Company Assignment 2017

I have been appointed to the Naval Academy class of 2017. When and how do we know which company we have been assigned? Less than three weeks until I-Day and I can hardly wait.

PTR states that this yr company assignments will be given at Iday.
 
My son received this information after he received his Permit to Report packet, probably late May early June. If you don't get it by I-Day, I'd contact the appointments office to confirm it. You'll want to know in advance so your family can let people know your summer mailing address:

MIDN 4/C Joe Schmo
[number] Platoon, [letter] Company
Annapolis, MD 21412
 
Hi Dolphin! hope your DS enjoyed his plebe yr! You were a great help to us over the year during the admission cycle, so thanks for that!

This yr at our welcome aboard picnic we were told that the incoming plebes will get their company assignments when they report at Iday (this confirms the info sent in this yr's PTR packet and is different from previous years) and the plebes will give the info to their parents when we meet back up with them later in the day on Iday. There was also some questions/answers about how to find out their company assignment if the parent is not attending Iday -I cant recall that answer though.
 
If the PTR says you won't get it until I-Day, then that is when you get it. All the family really needs to know is the company and platoon, which (worst case scenario) can be found out after the Oath of Officer ceremony. If parents aren't attending I-Day, they should call Admissions AFTER I-Day or wait for their plebe to write home (all of them are required to do this within the first few days).

Back in the day (probably for USNA1985's class, definitely not mine)....parents survived when they received this information days AFTER I-Day.

I wouldn't lose sleep over not knowing the company information.
 
2016's PTR also said we wouldn't find out our company until I-day... and then our parents were sent letters a couple weeks (or days for some) prior to I-day with the platoon and company and plebe summer mailing address.

I'd expect you guys to get the same letters, and unless your parents are Nazis, you'll probably know your companies pretty soon.
 
If you are not going to be there for I-Day and your plebe does not know their company number - encourage your plebe to borrow somebody's cellphone after the swearing-in and call you with this information. He/She shouldn't be shy about asking to use somebody's cellphone. There is generally a lot of "sympathy" for plebes without family members and perfect strangers will generally be more than happy to let them use their phone for a few minutes.

I know I would gladly let a family-less plebe use my phone and would not consider the request the least bit intrusive.
 
My DD just found out from her coach that she was in 29. My question is if they still skip J/Juliette for summer companies? Is she in K-29?

Shame, she'll be living only one deck away from the Promised Land and the best damn company in the Brigade.

Side note: current MIDN (unless something's changed) can look up company assignments via personnel lookup. Don't ask them to do this, and if you're a mid don't do it for other people.

There's not a big benefit to knowing your company ahead of time. I get it, you want to know, but you'll find out soon enough and by the end of the summer will be convinced you're in either the best or worst company out there.
 
A couple of reports of company assignment letters arriving in the mail. Anyone see one?
 
I have not received my letter in the mail as of today.

I have not gotten any letters. I was notified today from a friend up at USNA that I am in 29th Company.

How does that work for plebe summer? How do they divide it up when it comes to the letters?
 
And apparently MIDN don't understand how to follow non-disclosure agreements.

DO NOT ask MIDN to lookup your company.
 
I've heard that the letters containing 2017's assignments were sent out today, though this was through the grapevine. I would guess that that was likely was the catalyst for those asking current MIDN for the information.
 
My Mid (Youngster) is in Company 29. During the Plebe summer, it is called 29 Platoon and when the AC (academic) year starts, it is called Company 29. So during the summer, the letters should be addressed as

MIDN 4/C First Name Last Name
P Company 29 Platoon
Annapolis, MD 21412

When the academic year starts, your Mid will give you his/her PO Box number.

BTW, Company 29's Mids and Mid parents are cool!
 
Even if you know your company from a mid looking you up, you'll only be ahead of the letter by a day or two.
