We have a cadet at field training at Maxwell for a month. Should we only send letters or is there some other little thing that would be ok?

Only letters. They are not allowed goody packages, or at least they weren't a few yrs back.

When you send them letters place it in a larger envelope with more envelopes and stamps for them to mail back. Our DS came home with a stack of probably 50 letters. In one of his letters it was just a few lines:

Dear Mom and Dad,

I am fine. It is hot and humid here. Can you please send me some stamps and envelopes?

Love
Me.

Seriously that was the letter.

I don't know what you really plan on sending, but it's best to stay on the cautios side. If its like arotc, you could get away with sending things like sunflower seeds, but if it's things like snacks and candy, unless you're sending enough for everyone in the platoon (flight), don't expect it to get to your kid. It happens. It's only a few weeks, I'm sure they'll be okay without a few things.

You're not allowed to send anything but letters. No food or packages of any kind.

I know a few yrs ago if you did send a package they would confiscate, and the class instructors were the recipients of the goodies. Fastest way to stop people sending cadets packages is to confiscate and eat the goodies right in front of them.

Plus, let's be honest you do not want to send goodies to Alabama in July...even gum will melt in the heat by the time they get it out to the field.

SFT is suppose to be the AFROTC equivalent to the AFA BCT. Room inspections, phone confiscation, no connection to the outside world(except letters), meals having specific aspects...i.e. x amt of types of food (veggies, fruit, dairy).

It is the easy BCT, and the funny thing is for the AF this is really considered punishment. Afterall, the AF is the corporate branch that works 8-4:30, and PT is considered playing golf without a cart.
