Can anyone recommended the exact model of orlos socks for uniforms(black) and white crew(physical training). They have way too many to choose from? Thanks

Typed in military boot socks in Thorlo site and ordered whatever black or green they had. In one style the size was no longer in stock so made it easier on choosing!

As for white crew, son picked up a pack of 6 white socks from Walmart- mid calf and cushioned.

Socks are socks, I have worked at REI for 2 years and still going (a large outdoor, hiking, paddling, camping, etc. store). I work in the outerwear department and my advice is to stray away from cotton fabrics for socks (and clothes)-- they do not wick moisture away, they absorb sweat and lead to blisters. If you can purchase merino wool or smartwool brand socks with whatever weight/cushion you desire you will thank yourself later. Merino wool is a specialty wool that wicks away moisture, does not smell until it has been used for a few times, keeps your foot cool and is comfortable. WELL worth the investment, TRUST ME. In addition it is not that expensive considering the quality that you will be getting.

could someone post a link to some good PT and dress socks. I looked online forever and could not find any white PT socks that weren't cotton and didn't have logos on the ankle that didn't at least cost $12+ a pair. I have been told that it is a bad idea to buy expensive socks considering the chances of then getting lost. Thanks!

Your laundry goes into personal bags, it's not like it's mixed in with everyone else's.

DS and friends does see occasional lost/delayed bags, but they usually find their way home. IE: It's more important to have enough than to worry about losing them.

Supposedly people are finding Thorlo's at TJ Max occasionaly. Likewise, Sierra Trading Post can have deals, here are some for $7/pr. Don't know if they are the best choice for you, just an example similar to what DS has found useful.

BTW, this took me under a minute to search and find the $7 thorlos.... just sayin

Socks, underwear, and undershirts are about the only things worth getting exactly what you want for CBT/plebe year as you'll be in them daily, not having enough stinks (literally), and the USMA options are tolerable, but are far less useful/comfortable. Most do not find the current issue boot and dress socks that useful!

If you don't like the name brand prices hit wally world and buy generic. They have generic underarmor type shorts and briefs, etc. Socks are a bit harder to find cheap, as it's more expensive to make a thorlo type construction.

If you can tolerate wool it's a great option, but many find even "smartwool" itchy during summer and lean more toward the various synthetics.
