How do you actually know if you are triple Q'd? The CFA is a number not pass fail and we haven't received a letter stating qualified or not. Do you have to call the academy to see if you are considered triple Q'd? We already have the other two.

You are Triple qualified when:

1. You achieve "candidate" status from the academy.
2. You are cleared by DoDMERB (if you're not, you can get a medical waiver from the individual SA's)
3. You have been nominated by a congressperson.

At that point, you're just waiting for the offer of appointment.

okay I guess I thought there was a letter stating you were physically qualified like the medical and scholastic. I thought everyone who applied got the "Candidate" letter.

3Q'd

I got a letter saying that i was scholastically qualified but they don't send them out to everyone, you can call the admissions office to find out.

Go Navy Beat Army!

"Triple Qualified" has nothing to do with the nomination.

3Q status includes being Physically, Medically, and Scholastically Qualified.

  1. You qualify physically by passing the CFA.

  2. You qualify medically by passing the DODMERB exam or getting a waiver.

  3. You qualify scholastically by meeting the academic standards (class rank, SAT/ACT, GPA, transcripts) and demonstrating leadership in sports, ECs, and other activities.
There are many people who are Triple Qualified who do not receive a nomination.

There are many people who are Triple Qualified who do receive a nomination but do not receive an appointment.

Absolutely correct.

In terms of the CFA, if USNA considers you otherwise qualified and you have failed the CFA, they'll let you know. They don't specifically let you know that you've passed. So, basically, no news is good news.

One final note, your BGO is NOT told whether you passed the CFA or what your scores were (for the ubiquitous privacy reasons). Thus, don't call him/her about seeking this info as your time will be wasted. Your BGO will know when you are Triple Q'ed -- but so will you. Also, if you elect to tell your BGO your CFA scores, he/she will have a pretty good idea whether they are passing. But their determination is NOT official.

Call CGO! Clarify: Have candidate call CGO! While my son was at CVW, I stopped by Leahy Hall and asked if he could find out that piece of info and the kind officer told me he was 3 Q'd and what date the Admissions Board had reviewed his file.

Waiting for MCO to get noms out! Said that would be by Christmas!

how did I hear completely different qualifications?

Except for students that attended NASS, we received an e mail while my son was at NASS congratulating him for passing his CFA and even the Midn that administered the test.
