How does one receive a Letter of Assurance? I know they are reserved for the cream of the crop of the cream of the crop of prospectives. Does it only factor in Academic Excellence, or does it factor in being well rounded like actual applications? Thanks

Last year was different. Those in the know have not made public how it will be done for 2018. In the past, very well-rounded candidates got them. Also, blue chip recruits received them. Last year, very few were given. Work on making yourself as competitive as possible and don't worry about the LOA. The goal is the appointment, not the LOA.

Search Button

When I go to the grocery store, I avoid the self check-out. I think its very impersonal and enjoy the social interaction with my friends in line. I know it would be very easy to hit the search button for answers to question that have been posted a billion times already. Its the human touch, the service aspect that I still enjoy answering the same ole question.

I know where my favorite shirt is the closet but I'll still yell at my wife, "Honey, where is my Super-Suit'", she'll yell back from across the house its where you last left it. I love annoying her!

Cause I love her so much.

. . . . .

People are just asking for help.

I was reminded by a moderator that one of the purposes of this forum is to provide answers, not necessarily lecture.

We need to help and interactions are great, but reading and researching skills are great also.

Where do we draw the line on external assistance vs self-help? It must be me or a generational gap as to I rather find my answers from reliable sources and I don't consider an internet forum as a reliable source that doesn't need verification. Most cases applicants/appointees/current cadets/midshipmen provide facts or good advices on this forum, but there are cases where they don't. When do you find answers for yourself?

Haven't older folks heard too many times I am only doing this because of something but I won't do it for different things?

@MemberLG

I enjoyed your lecture. Thank you

There's too much lecturing going on in this thread and in the USMA forum lately.
People come to SAF to ask questions and hopefully get answers. We should be helpful. Why would any one ever want to log back on to SAF with more questions if they received such snotty responses to their previous ones.
Let's be careful not to post things that might scare off forum members.
End of lecture on lecturing

Admissions info changes year to year. I have not heard anything coming out of admissions about LOAs for this admission's cycle.
Last year, they went primarily to athletes, URMs and the super uber candidate.

I do understand where you are coming from. We have had a few posters who have tested the patience of our members.
I'm just suggesting some tolerance, especially with our new members. We don't want to make anyone feel unwelcome.
