Okay so I personally have taken the ACT twice.

April 2013

COMP - 28
ENG - 24
MATH - 30
READ - 32
SCI - 24
ENG/WRIT - 23

June 2013

COMP - 27
ENG - 26
MATH - 28
READ - 24
SCI - 29
ENG/WRIT - 25

Okay so superscored, I have a 26 English, 30 Math, 32 Reading, and 29 Science. Basically, my question is how does the academy look at the composite. Because, my highest is 27, but my superscore would make it better.

And I know I have to increase my English, always my weak spot, and by going down 8 points in my Reading look bad? I'm not really sure what happened on my second test there...

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

Keep taking them every time you can. Also, you may want to try the SAT. Some students do better on one of the tests than the other. Remember it is not just your test scores. There are a lot of factors involved. Good luck.

Scores look decent. I wouldn't worry too much on how admissions weights the comp score. If you do end up on the chopping block for admissions, your scores will be looked at more in depth, and your math and science scores from April are definitely competitive, as well as your reading. I doubt your June scores will have a negative effect either. If anything, they will applaud the fact that you tried to improve them. USNA also places a lot of emphasis on STEM, the essay portion is more of just a formality (but you should still take it seriously). The fact that your math and science scores didn't change drastically between April and June shows consistancy and proves that it wasn't luck.

If the rest of your profile is good (participation in sports, volunteering etc.), you should definitely have a shot of admission in my opinion.

My DD's ALO indicated that they look at each subject individually and place little emphasis on the composite score. He also indicated that the threshold is a 25 in any one subject, so you definitelly want to work on your english score.

The Class of 2017 Profile should come out in August, this will give you an idea of the entering class average. AFA SAT/ACT test score averages are typically the highest of any of the academies, so set a goal to be above the average. As others have mentioned, they are looking for the Whole Candidate and you are competing with others from your area so be the best you can be and it will all work out.

Thank you, everyone! DevilDog, I actually already have taken the SAT twice and I didn't do very well at all. 540 CR 610 MATH 590 WRIT. That's my superscore. I might take the SAT again, but I'm focusing on my ACTs!

Just one last question, will my scores that are below 25 have brackets even if I have scored better in the section a different time I took my ACT?

It should only be bracketed if you are below the threshold. I would suggest you reach out to your contact at AFA admissions to confirm they have your most current scores.
