Baseball at USMA

Any pros or cons of playing baseball at Army?

Pro: you're attending The United States Military Academy
Pro: you're playing division 1 collegiate baseball
Pro: no debt after college
Pro: you get to serve as a commissioned army officer after your four years ad make an impact in the world.
Pro: Sink Navy.
Con: no major leagues
 
Pro: You get some very special events with the Yankees including face time with players

I'm not a major baseball fan, but even I could see the Yankees really support USMA!

Maybe. Note that this has not been an annual event in recent history. It could (re)become one.
 
Con: practice, travel, & game time can affect academics. Same con would exist playing baseball at any college.
 
Pro's: you get to continue to play baseball, you get paid to go to school, etc. Probably the biggest "pro" is that it gets you on a team and away from some of the worst parts of plebe life. You'll get to bond with teammates who are upperclassmen, leave post for away games, and get out of drill (parading)

Con's: you miss out on some of the bonding with your class/company mates, and you risk falling behind on grades
 
You get play at once of the most successful D1 programs in the country, in the past few years.

MAYBE, but I'd rather be an AD LT than a 39th round pick for some MLB team traveling from bus to bus with podunk midwest destinations.

NFL or NBA I could understand but the gym customer service rep I met at my last workout played AAA baseball recently and never got the big call up. You want that life? Don't go to USMA and don't do ROTC.

They have been rather good but their league or lack of league is really really weak.
 
The Patriot League is an ideal fit for Army's intercollegiate athletic teams - Army is lucky to be affiliated with like-minded schools when it comes to the student part not student-athlete.

Athletically, it's still weak when compared to other D-1 schools.
 
If you are suggesting that going to WP is one route to playing professional baseball, I think you have to think seriously about your motivation. Attending WP is about starting a career in the military, not about building a sports resume.

While many successfully participate in varsity sports at WP, it is important to understand all of the various demands on your time at the military academies that are not typical of civilian colleges.
 
The Biggest PRO is...

you get to play for Coach Sotollano. You will not find a better coach anywhere - not only for baseball but teaching you about how to be a standup guy. Combine that with the rest of the USMA and there is no better training to be a leader of quality.
