We were advised by our son's NROTC coordinator that he has been selected for consideration for an ISR (Immediate Scholarship Reservation). He explained that their CO has a few slots he can fill this way and that we should have a definitive answer my the end of the month. We were told that it is very likely that DS will be selected for this, but if not, his packet would be in by first Board in August.

Any comments on this? I cant find much information on this in a search. He is applying for USNA, USCGA and USMMA, so he surely wouldn't be able to make a decision until he heard from them.

Wondering.....

The ISR is used to grab high quality candidates before the Academies or other ROTC programs do. It is also used for diversity recruiting.

Contrary to what one might think, accepting an ISR is not binding, just as a Scholarship earned via the more lengthy normal Scholarship Board process is not binding if accepted.

I hope you get it, immediately accept it, then see what comes in over the next nine months.

^ I don't see how the ISR Scholarship is any different from other NROTC scholarships from your links. Are they? Otherwise I don't understand your post.

duninla: That was my point. I am sorry I didn't make it clear. I was seconding your suggestion about accepting it and the lack of obligation. I was agreeing with you but didn't make it clear due to my effort to provide documentation.

I have no first hand knowledge of this commissioning path but from what I can see it is a different path to the same point as the NROTC 4-year application process.

Sorry for the confusion.
