Can anyone tell me where the abbreviation "M/N" comes from? Is it something that USMMA parents invented?

The OPNAV Glossary of Abbreviations, USNA, and NROTC all abbreviate midshipman as "MIDN."

Just curious.

The abbreviation M/N was been in use at Kings Point since they changed the Corps of Cadets into the Regiment of Midshipman. The abbreviation traces back to Cadet/Midshipman C/M rank which you will still see on sea projects today.

You'll also see the abbreviations for ranks vary between services. A captain in the Army is a CPT. In the Coast Guard or Navy its a CAPT (although, they are not the same pay grade.)

Some services use 1st Lt. some 1LT... and no one service is "right" while the others are wrong.
