I understand a lot of time has passed. It is a long story why I waited 3 months to send in my info. Please bear with me. I am not looking to get chewed out for my stupidity, I'm just hoping to see a little light at the end of this tunnel.

I received a 4 year scholarship from AFROTC but was DQ'd for a minor case of eczema. DoDMERB requested additional medical documents regarding my eczema in the past in April. I sent all the documents 3 months later in July and it seems that it was received on the 16th.

My question is, would they still consider waiving my eczema despite the 3 month gap? As I stated before, I know 3 months is a long time, but I am hoping I did not completely screw up my chances. To my understanding, they review the information for two days and then post up a decision, but in my case it looks like they just looked and tossed me to the back of the pile.

Typically the letter states X amount of days you have to submit paperwork, what exactly did it say in the letter?

I am guessing you were spending time fighting the DQ, and now it is just the remedial that you are concerned with.

I would contact HQ AFROTC besides the help desk at DoDMERB. AFROTC determines what/whom to waive, DoDMERB is only in charge of the medical exam/paperwork. It may up to them now because if they sent you a letter and stated 45 days, you are long time out of the acceptable time frame and assumed you were not accepting the scholarship.

Good luck.

According to the instructions, medical remedials had to be completed within three months and if those three months pass, I'd have to get reauthorized to get a medical exam from a DoDMERB doctor. It never said anything about administrative remedials.

In the past I did some research for the time limit on admin remedials, but the only thing I learned was that the DoDMERB keeps your records for 1 year. I assumed that since I didn't need to physically see a doctor, I didn't necessarily need to follow the 3 month limit. But of course I'm a moron.

It sounds stupid but the reason for the 3 month wait is because I was super discouraged from my DQ. People told me receiving a waiver was a long shot, so instead of sending in my information, I spent 3 months mentally beating myself up for getting DQ'd in the first place. And wasted precious time in the meantime.

Anyways, I'll give those numbers a shot and hope for the best. Thanks.

EDIT:

Two more questions,

1. Is there a possibility I could still join AFROTC during my freshmen year without the scholarship assuming they DO waive me?
2. Assuming #1 was possible, could I qualify for another scholarship or will the 3 month gap come back to haunt me?

EDIT 2:

Also, I realize I made a typo. I meant to say four months. April 4 - July 16.

Yes, you can still join and your DoDMERB exam will be valid until Mar 2015. Thus, if it does not work out for this one, and you are awarded another scholarship, they will use that exam because exams are valid for 2 yrs.

I wouldn't worry about all of that right now. Your priority right now is to make sure the remedial doesn't turn into a DQ.

Just to update, I sent a couple emails to DoDMERB Help Desk and AFDoDMERB.

This morning I received an email from AF saying that my waiver was granted. Another email was from DoDMERB Help desk saying they were having trouble locating me in the system.

My actual DoDMERB status on the website hasn't changed yet so I'm still kind of edgy. I'll celebrate when its "official." :thumb:

Why would you think the email from AF wasn't official? Did the email say you would receive something via snail mail and that's what you're waiting on? Any waiver will com from AF and not from any flavor of DoDMERB.

I think what the OP is saying is the "official” notification comes in the form of the change on the DoDMERB website. While an e-mail from AF is cause for celebration, I agree with the OP in that it is not "official" until DoDMERB says so. I know for AROTC it specifically says on the waiver "do not contract unless DoDMERB shows waiver granted" (paraphrasing). BTW DS never received any "paperwork" after being granted his medical waiver. He received the waiver via e-mail from AROTC CC and a few hours later the DoDMERB website was updated to show "waiver granted". Never received any other correspondence on the matter. FYI, make sure you keep a copy of the actual waiver for future use. AROTC CC was very specific in this. He said it would be very helpful when applying to certain (Army)/Service) schools Great news for you edlp. Congratulations

I will make sure to do that. Thanks :)

Need to amend something I posted last week

"Never received any other correspondence on the matter". The day after I posted that DS never received any further information from CC he receiced a letter from AROTC CC confirming his waiver. Just FYI.
