Hi,
I have scheduled my Dodmerb physical for wednesday. Is that when I get taped? If I fail the tape measurement is it an end all be all scenario where there is nothing I can do? Can I reschedule it for a couple months later if I fail? Thank you for your feedback

Question?

SOONERS96,

My DS application for the Academy went to 100% on Monday 7/22. How long was it before you were able to create a new account on Dodmerb? How long did it take before you were able to schedule a physical?

Thank you in advance...

I'm not really sure what you are asking. I received a letter in the mail telling me to schedule my physical in the next 6 weeks, so I did that.

Weight is not a DoDMERB issue (unless you are morbidly obese), it is assessed when you take your APFT when you arrive at school as part of qualifying. That is when you will be taped if you exceed the height/weight standards. Don't sweat that for the DoDMERB physical.

This is a "Don't call us, we'll call you." type of answer. It is a mystery as to why some folks get called for a physical earlier than others. Not much you can do except be ready for the envelope, because they don't give you much time to schedule it once it arrives.

Thanks for the info! I'm not morbidly obese, but I do exceed the height weight scale because of football being right around the corner. I play left tackle and I am currently 6'3 260lb. I have no doubt I can lose the needed weight if I have until I report to the University. Thank you!

Our DS was taped every yr in ROTC because he was too thin. 5'10, 147 lbs. He was told one time that if he lost more than 5 lbs at SFT, he would be sent home for medical reasons.

I know that he was not taped at his physical, except for his flight physical, but again every yr the det. did tape him for his contract.

I am not sure if DoDMERB would consider your ht/wt. to exceed their limits and may request a remedial. A remedial will mean you have to go and get taped within a specific time frame.

All DoDMERB really is, is the medical clearing house for the military. They follow the regs set forth. If you meet the regs. than you are qualified. If there is something that is an issue, they will ask for more in depth information aka a remedial. For some issues, if you don't meet the regs., than it is an automatic DQ, and the branch has the ability to place you up for a waiver. You do not ask for the waiver, the branch does it.

I know on another thread (USMA) there is a taping thread.

My son wasn't taped until way after passing the DM physical. They ht/weigh you during the physical but don't tape you. WP then notifies you if you don't meet standard. Most people already know if they are over IAW AR 600-9

That said, you can easily have a tape test performed by your local recruiter, or an Officer/NCO or Retiree. It'll happen regardless once notified.

Take this form to one of those individuals...

When you submitted your application for AROTC you included your PFT results, there was also a section to submit your height and weight, this could be done by a school nurse or other medical provider. I assume you included both of these with your application.

This should be all you need right now. I can't remember if my son's were measured and weighed during the Dodmerb physical.

Whether or not the Board will take into account your height/weight during their review, I'm not sure.

Remember that you will have to either pass the height/weight or tape test before your scholarship would be activated and before any money is paid once you start school.

Sooner,

My DS2 was an LB for football. He is 6'4, 250 lbs. FB at his school was yr round. Fall FB, spring weight training, summer camp.

One thing IMPO to concern yourself more with is the PFA.

Bust one portion of the test, and you bust it all. You can max the other portions, but still bust. 6'3 260 lbs is not what an avg person would consider a runner. LB's are not runners, their job is to block.

Taping; you will probably be fine. Can you say the same for running?

Don't get tunnel vision. It is called the WCS because every aspect matters and they want the ideal WHOLE CANDIDATE.

My son finished his USNA app around 7/1 and he received access to DODMERB and DODMETS on 7/3 and scheduled his appts right away. The hearing, audio and vision were completed by 7/16 and he received "qualified" status seven days later. So, it moved very quickly for him.

Ahhhh

Thank you grevar! I think I may have asked my question in the wrong area but still got the answer...thank you again.

Cheers :thumb:

I wouldn't worry about it too much anyway if you're in football. My son *theoretically* gets taped every single testing cycle because he is over-weight for his height but he was a high school wrestler and still works out religeously. However, his body fat is only about 6% so they stopped taping him altogether.

Heh, actually, Line Backers jobs are to tackle not block.

My DS was an offensive lineman, 6'2 275 and played a year in D3. He decided he wanted to join USAF ROTC and transferred, lost 65 pounds over about a year and is now a senior in the program.

At his height the cut off was around 215ish, and he is pretty close to that, although he is solid muscle and works out every day. He was a little concerned but he said when he went to SFT no one cared a bit. He also mentioned there was a kid that played D1 football who weighed in at 250ish, and no one questioned him either.
