To those of you who have just completed, or are working on, their application using this year's application:

-Which method did you use to send SAT/ACT scores and transcripts? I have copies of both at home, so could scan and e-mail or fax them, or have transcripts mailed, faxed or e-mailed from the school.

-My son is working on the app, but in the brief time I looked at it, was there an e-mail or fax number listed(for the scores and transcripts to be sent to)?

-They wanted a name of someone to administer the PFT, but in talking to an ROTC enrollment officer at a college, he said they will do the PFT after the interview, so to bring clothes. So can our coach just ignore the e-mail he will receive?

I am sure I will have more questions over the next few days, but just getting the scores and transcripts squared away will be a big help.

When your son takes them, he has to option of sending the scores straight to Cadet Command - like sending it to a college. Both SAT and SAT tests allow scores to be sent to scholarship (ROTC) recipients (Cadet Command). If he has already taken then, but did not send them - I wouldn't bother having College Board send them - because then that costs $$; so I would recommend sending them both ways, just to be sure that Cadet Command receives the scores. Oh, regarding transcripts - I doubt you can just email them yourself; the only way they can be sent is via the guidance counselor (again, I would recommend sending it via mail and fax to be sure it gets there one way or another).

Since the portal has changed, I couldn't say where it's located; maybe look for a button/link that says something like "Questions" or "Contact Us". I don't remember, but it may also be listed on the paper your son will be getting frequently from Cadet Command (it's a frequent letter to remind of the parts of the application that have not yet been completed).

Since the process changed, I don't know - I am guessing so, though, since his interviewing officer will handle it.
Response in blue.

Don't fret too much over transcripts right now. In fact, your guidance office may not even be in a position to help you at the moment. I know some schools, like mine, are in the process of finalizing transcripts from the 2013 graduated class.

The ROTC Battalion that gives him his PFT will send the scores to CC. Just make sure your son get confirmation from them that they will and have sent the scores. CC will let you know if they are not received.

I used Parchment.com to send my transcripts, and they just had a drop down list to pick CC.

IMPORTANT: For me, the units I'm trying to interview with cant even see my application until my coach submits the PFT scores. So make sure your DS's coach gets that sent in, because that's the one thing I'm waiting on to be eligible to interview. It's not like the old days where you can interview whenever you want, you have to have ALL the paperwork in now. I'm nonexistent to units until I get all the paperwork in (PFT, transcripts, Guidance Counselor form).

I like this new approach in that CC does not have to waste time and resources on candidates that only submit a partial application only to then not complete the process in it entirety. :thumb:

Wow - CC has been making some big jumps so far this year.

If this is the new system, why would the Enrollement officer say that they will do the OP's PFT after the interview.

Just trying to understand the new process.

Are you saying that an applicant can't have an Interview until the application is 100% complete other then the interview?

Given that many applicants start working on their applications in the Spring of thie junior year, and many take over the summer to complete everything, that seems like there will be a real log jam of applicatnts trying to get interviewed before the first board in Oct.

Many applcants wait until they start their senior year to complete the application so they can include leadership positions they may get at the start of the year, are you saying these applicants will not be able to have their interview until everything is turned in.

Just curious.

I'm just saying: I have my online application portal completely filled out. I tried to contact units to interview with, thinking that I didn't need transcripts and PFT in just to interview. They told me that when they checked the database, they couldn't even find my name!

I emailed CC about this, and CC said that it was because I didn't have transcripts, PFT, or guidance counselor form in. As of right now I'm waiting on my coach to send the PFT in, then I'll be cleared to interview.

I have no idea why it works like this, but the Enrollment Officers at two units could not see my name in the database, and Cadet Command claimed it was because I needed that paperwork.

DS's application last year was that way. His portal did not say available to interview until all items were posted by CC. That's when it was available for the PMS to look at and download. He took paper copies of everything he sent in to his interview just in case.

Maybe they just posted most of his at once so it was a coincidence, but he sent his info in as he got it.

Really? I was under the impression that last years group + prior could interview in any order; in fact my interviewer was telling me the same, I think.

So, if they are going to do the PFT after the interview, how do you set up the interview if you have not already done the PFT? Or did they change the process this year? Maybe the man we were talking to was not familiar with the new application process.

Very possible. If I were you, I'd do the PFT with your coach and have him send it in ASAP. The unit might want to run him through a PFT after the interview just to make sure he hasn't dropped off big time or that his scores were accurate?

Maybe I am missing something. Is this his official interview for the scholarship or is this just interviewing/visiting a college he is interested in.

If it's the scholarship interview they would need the info from CC as they have to fill out forms and send back to CC to put in his file.

OK, I bet our unit we spoke with is not aware of the new process. So our coach will get an e-mail specifying what needs to be done? Our coach is pretty willing to do that whenever we need it done, and guidance has the transcripts ready to go - as I said, I already have a copy. So as long as the coach gets the e-mail, we can move forward.
Strength - about how long between filling out the coach (or other) information was it until he/she got the e-mail?

QA - we are talking about the official interview for the scholarship. We spoke with an enrollment officer at one of the colleges we are interested in. He said fill out the application and call him and he would set up the interview with the PMS, and that he could do the PFT after. I am thinking that this is the "old" way.

Could be. I think I would make a second phone call or e-mail just to be sure.

Good Luck!!

Boy, things have really changed over the last year, sure glad there are folks like you on here that can help guide these new applicants along through the process.

Since starting with the whole AROTC Application process back in 2007 with my older son, CC has gone through at least 2 major changes in the process.

When my younger son had his Scholarship Interview in 2010, he had only submitted his name and SS#, the rest of the application was blank, he had not even taken his second ACT at that time and was not done with his Junior year, so no transcripts either.

I tend to like the idea of having the application complete before the interview as well, but I can sure forsee the PMS's being real busy with interviews before the first deadline. Applicants will really need to make sure they get things finished early enough to be able to schedule an interview before the deadline for the first board.

And schedule well in advance in this case. (For me, I believe I scheduled it about several weeks - a month out)

This is exactly what DS just did.

He set up an interview with PMS from #1 college choice. then, just shortly (minutes) later got an email from CC that seemed to say he couldn't interview now-that, though his application is 100% done, CC wasnt set up for interviews yet (at least we think that is what it said).

We just are not knowledgeable enough to figure it all out. It really is a foreign language.

DS sent PMS an email confirming that is is an official interview for the application. He would go anyway but it is a 9 hour drive round trip and he has already gone once for a college visit.

Oh my! At least we are only 30 min from the school he will be interviewing at....so we can get over there without a lot of planning, however, in a few weeks we will be dancing around sports practice and games and marching band practice and competitions. Fall is so busy it would have been nice to get this out of the way, but it is starting to sound like the interview will happen right smack in the middle of it all!

Sent you a PM!
