I'm sorry if I ask something that has already been asked and answered. I had no luck trying to find previous threads. I just visited goarmy.com and looked at the ROTC section. The site said that applications for scholarships for the 2014/2015 school year are being accepted. Should I start applying now and if I do start to apply, can I update the application with activities from senior year? I plan on majoring in Computer Science so will picking a technical major be beneficial to my application or does the Army not take that into account? And lastly, when do the scholarship boards meet? Thank you for your responses.

You can start your application now.

You can update your application up to the deadline before the first board. The first board meets Oct. 21st, your application needs to be complete and fully submitted by Oct. 7th to be eligible to meet the first board. Once your application has been ssen by the board you can no longer make updates other then SAT/ACT scores and school choices. Make sure you list what you have done and what you are confident you will do your senior year, if you are sure you will be in a Varsity sport in the spring of your senior year then go ahead and list it on the application.

Your major will have little impact on getting a scholarship. Some engineering majors may help a bit but don't choose a major just to try and give you an edge, it won't be that big of a help.

Didn't want to start a new thread, so ill ask here:

On the Army ROTC online application, there's a file upload box to upload your transcripts. It is still allowed to send them to CC by US Mail right? And they will update your application when they are received?

Wow - CC did do some major updating. I don't think anyone here can answer that question except someone like Clarkson; since this is the first year of the revamped application portal.

But - yes, the application should be updated when they receive your transcript yet. I wouldn't be too concerned with sending in your transcript just yet. And to be honest - your guidance counselors probably have not had the time to update your transcript, as they are busy finalizing senior transcripts.

Thank you Jcleppe and clarksonarmy for your responses. They were very helpful!

Do you want to upload the original and have it seen by the board, or would you like to take the chance that it arrives via email, is opened, and is transcribed correctly by an overworked staff that is currently subject to furlogh every friday. Your choice.

Clarkson,
Going off of what you said about uploading files, do you know how long the usual wait is before their status is upgraded from pending to approved? Also, do you have to wait for the transcript and fitness assessment to be approved before scheduling the interview? Thanks in advance.

@Clarkson

I'm a bit confused about a couple of things & I'm hoping you can help. On the one hand, the application portal gives the applicant the ability to upload transcripts directly to CC. You also indicate in your above comment that it's OK to upload. However, in the Additional Information section of the application, there is a link for "Request for Transcripts". When my DS clicks on that link, it takes him to CC Form 168-R July 2012, Request for Secondary School Transcript. It looks like the form is supposed to be filled out by the applicant's guidance counselor and remitted directly to CC. In addition, my DS recently requested his official high school & college transcripts (he's dual enrolled). When we received them, they were sealed and had a stamp on the envelope that read, "ISSUED TO STUDENT, UNOFFICIAL IF OPENED". We're not about to break that seal until we're sure what we're supposed to do.

Also, it just seems a bit odd that a college would never accept a transcript directly from a student applicant, yet the U.S. government will accept it directly from the applicant for a scholarship. Can you speak to that (i.e. do they go back and verify everything with the guidance counselor, etc.)?

As usual, I really appreciate your help! It seems like this new application format is throwing us "newbies" for a loop!

Clarkson,

The only thing DS has uploaded so far are screen shots of his SAT/ACT scores. He uploaded on 7/28/13 and by 7/31/13 they had gone from Pending to Approved.

Also, do you have to wait for the transcript and fitness assessment to be approved before scheduling the interview?

Here's information quoted directly off of the application: "Please note that interviews are required prior to Scholarship selection. Interviews will not be scheduled until we receive a College Board score and a High School Cumulative Unweighted Grade Point Average." So, I'm thinking that the PFT doesn't have to come before the interview. However, when they say they need to receive the "Cumulative Unweighted Grade Point Average", I don't know if that should be interpreted as them needing the transcripts first, or if they just want you to fill in the field on the application that asks for your CGPA. Perhaps someone (hint, hint Clarkson ) can provide additional insight to this.

View the other "AROTC Application" thread that's going on right now.

From what I've seen applying so far, you DO have to have all paperwork completed and verified before you can interview. No interviewing with a halfway filled out app, they want to see everything before you set the interview up. Again, check the other thread.

Wow, that's a bit confusing. But, whatever CC wants, CC will get!

Thanks for the reference to the other thread!

Thank you for the help. All of my files (transcript, SAT scores, pfa) have been approved on the portal. I logged into the AROTC status website and it said that I should be contacted shortly to schedule an interview. However, despite having my SAT scores file upload having been approved, the status website said I still need official proof. Does anyone know how long it takes to be contacted about an interview and how to officially prove your SAT scores (aside from going through collegeboard which takes forever)? Thanks in advance.

brij, how did you send your transcript, SAT's and PFA? Was your guidance counselor notified (by e-mail) and then sent the transcript, or did you hand deliver a form? We are thinking of hand delivering the form, then just snail mailing the transcript, a copy of our SAT/ACT score report and the PFA (score sheet printed from the computer). Right now DS is working on the Personal Statement.

I uploaded all three of them. A scan of the pfa form, a screenshot from the collegeboard website, and something a little odd for my transcripts. My school does not offer an official unweighted gpa transcript so I uploaded a PDF of all of my final report cards from the last 3 years of hs, which kind of surprisingly they accepted. I added a note at the end of the PDF explaining why I did this, so that probably helped. I hope you have success with your application

OK, so we can probably upload a scanned official transcript that we already have. Maybe we will go the upload route - we also have the paper copies of score reports from the SAT/ACT's. So they never said anything about needing the guidance counselor form?

The academic tab of my application is still yellow, probably due to me still needing to get that in. I think they email your counselor about. As far as I know that is not necessary for an interview as the status website says I am cleared for an interview

Here's a concern I have -- brijw10 mentioned that even though he uploaded a screenshot of his SAT scores, CC still came back and said they wanted "official" scores. So, if we break the seal on our official transcripts so they can be uploaded to the portal, are we still going to have to go back through the process of ordering another copy of "official" transcripts to be mailed to CC?

That being said, I also kinda got the impression from brijw10's post that they CC was still willing to set up an interview even though they haven't yet received official test scores. I'd be willing to break the seal on the transcripts if I knew it would speed up the scheduling of the interview. But, if they still won't schedule the interview without the official copies, I'd be stuck having to pay to obtain another set of transcripts from my son's college (he's dual-enrolled). It's not make or break for me, but I'd rather not spend money if I don't need to.

What's your thoughts on this?

So, it's starting to sound like to me that CC is willing to schedule interviews with the "preliminary" versions of things scanned in (i.e. PFT, transcripts, & test scores). But, they still will need us to go back and provide "official" transcripts, "official" test scores, an "official" response from the person who administered the PFT (when they get the email from CC), and the "official" form from the guidance counselor (when they get the email from CC).

Based on what you've experienced so far, does that sound about right?
