Can I use chemistry for my math teacher evaluation?

I have math teachers that would be able to do the evaluation, but I feel like I know my chemistry teacher better than my math teachers. For my extra evaluation, i am using my history teacher as I have known her for a few years. If I put down my chemistry teacher, would I be at a disadvantage?

If you're talking about the online application, they put down what teachers they want for a reason. 1st thing you must learn right now if you want to be in the military. Follow instructions. They'll tell you when you are allowed to think for yourself. In all seriousness, if the instructions ask for math, then you give math. If the instructions ask about a certain activity or time from, that's what you give. The instructions are pretty clear.

Use a teacher in the subject they've requested.

If they'd wanted you to substitute your Chem for your Math teacher, they'd have put in a line: "Please feel free to give us Mr. Jones' report from Chemistry even though we're really interested in your success in your school's Math program."

Actually, my son was allowed to substitute an AP physics teacher rec. You might call your admissions counselor and ask.

Christcorp, You give bad information. My DD was also allowed to substitute a Chemistry teacher for a math teacher. I question that your an ALO. You want everyone to believe your something special, but you give out false information.

Folks, let's not get personal on an online forum, generally people are trying to be helpful here. As for CC - I can vouch for him, even met him at an USAFA tailgate party.

I stayed out of this thread because I thought the question was answered but in a big beast like the military, there is always some variation. I can say that then the application states that it wants recommendations from two specific teachers, that's pretty much what they want, and what we did (that was the guidance from the admissions counselor-please note that different people work different areas of the country and different AC's are likely to be more stringent about certain guidelines than others). It all works out in the end, the LOR from the teachers is just a mosaic from which they develop a picture of the candidate, that is why they allow you to submit ones from people of your choosing. So lets keep our perspective, keep on topic, and not let this subject sway into personal comments that we might come to regret.

Peace

Wow. A little harsh, I think.

I believe that those of us who have known Christcorp for several years and have met him and tailgated with the man at Thudgate can attest to his credentials. There are very few posters here who have helped as many people as he has. I think if you spend some time on here you will find that there are many ways that the process differs for some candidates. People here offer the best information that they have.

CC has been an invaluable asset to this site for a very long time. If you think this info is inaccurate that is one thing, but to suggest he is lying about being an ALO that is another.

Do you believe Flieger is an ALO? If so, than take the time and hit Fliegers link, look at his posts. You know what you will see 99% of the time from Flieger? Something along the lines....as usual CC is 100% correct.

CC also was ADAF for 20 yrs., on top of being an AFA cadet parent that graduated in 2012, and their DS got the plum 3 yr assignment to Rand for his PHD with a follow on to UPT. He can speak volumes on many aspects, but like many posters know, the AFA and ADAF for that fact change/tweak things yr to yr.

As for me, personally, CC is all that, he is something special. I would think most posters here are indebted to assisting them throughout the process.

Finally, what did he say that was wrong? He gave the most valuable advice out there.

He does not have the online app in front of him. He said follow instructions. He did not say you could not.

Impressive post.

Folks. Its all good. You all know that I take nothing personal. Life is too short for that. As for my advice, I simply said that the academy asked for specific teachers, so you should use what they ask for. The original poster asked if putting down a different teacher than what was asked for would be a disadvantage. I simply stated that in the military, one of the most important things is to follow instructions. If you want to deviate from the instructions, no one is stopping you. But is that really the way to start off trying to be a cadet or member of the military? Its not like the original poster said they were home schooled and mom was their only teacher. Obviously, the academy would allow you to deviate in this case. Same if you went to school overseas or in a different state and you recently moved and have no further relationship with the teacher being requested. But the individual did state their math teacher was available and could do the recommendation. I was simply stating that in the military, it is important to follow instructions. Not to decide for yourself what you want to do.

Afa1981. I guess I could have been less judgemental in my response and simply stated that there are exceptions to everything and to call his admissions counselor for permission to substitute teachers. I just didn't believe that was the right way to start off the application process. Especially when the only reason was because the individual simply wanted to use a different teacher. I guess I could have been less direct about it. But I have been requested on a number of ocassions to contact an applicant to have them ammend an entry because they didn't provide what was asked for.

I definitely don't believe that I am all that. Even when some folks thank me for my contributions, I always emphasize the fact that neither I nor any individual makes this forum as valuable as it is. It takes the back and forth experiences and perspective of all posters; applicants, parents, current cadets, alumni, alo, and even lurkers to provide a well rounded perspective of the academy, military, and the process. If you don't believe my opinions or my experiences, no problem. I'll even send you a refund for the amount of money you paid for my opinions and advice.

I wasn't trying to be a smart a$s. Just trying to lighten up the tension.

 Made me smile. In the time I have been on here, one thing that has become abundantly clear is that you do not need protected. :thumb:

Well handled.

My fear is AFA1981 will leave this site because of this thread.

I support CC's perspective

AFA1981.
I hope you stick around and assist the class of 18. CC aka Mike took lumps too. However, in the end of the day as Mike said, it is us as a group that makes this site invaluable.

You are as invaluable as Mike...just different perspectives.
