What is an advanced course classified as on the resumé

My school is academically more challenging than other schools (and this is not coming from a sense of school pride, for example people move to my city because of the school system) and the difficulty of a Pre-Ap class would be comparable to an AP class at another school in the area. So that being said on the foreign language part of the personal profile, under "If you have taken (or are currently taking) an AP or IB foreign language, indicate that language here (if not choose "N/A")" I took 2 years of Pre-AP french (2 and 3) can I include it here or not.

On a separate topic what school official do I put down on the extracurricular activities section?

Nope. AP means something specific, and regardless of how hard your pre-AP course is, it ain't AP.

Not sure what you mean by your second question.
 
I am seeing all these AP and IB courses and what not but I have a question. I am currently living in France and studying in a french high school but we do not have all these courses, we only have "specializations" with an extra "option". I personally have a scientifique specialization with engineer science as an option.

So my question is : What should I indicate on the application ?

PS: I know there is some US citizens living abroad who have been appointed to the USAFA.
 
You should indicate exactly what you have... "scientifique specialization with engineer science as an option". They'll figure it out if they don't already know what it means. You're not the first person to apply who is currently studying in France. That's my opinion anyway. You can't go wrong indicating exactly what you have. You can only screw things up if you try to "figure out" what you should put.
 
kinnem : Thank you very much for your reply ! I was thinking about that question for a little time. Also, do you have in mind any threads or internet links for US citizens applying to a service academy ? Would be great to read about that.

There are tens of thousands of HS in the US. The AFA needs to create a level playing field regarding the candidates. They do this by requesting a school profile. In that profile it tells many things to the AFA.

1. % that go Ivy, % that go 4 yr OOS Public/Private, 4 yrs IS, 2 yr CC, Tech or workforce.
2. Number of AP/IB/AICEs offered and pre-requisites required to attend these classes.

No offense, but as a Realtor, most people will buy/rent a smaller home in a better school district, thus don't place too much weight into your premise regarding the educational demands at your hs from a national perspective or even state. It just happens to be the top notch for your city/county in the state.

APs are a national curriculum set forth by College Board. Just like SAT/ACTs are national. Honors or in your school's case pre-AP, is your school district curriculum lesson plans. The AFA, and colleges like the AP/IB/AICE programs because from school to school, state to state since it gives them a national perspective regarding every student. A 5 in AP French in IA, is the same as a 5 in CA. The exact same test.

The AFA will use their own algorithm regarding how to weight your cgpa and course rigor based on your school profile.

You will not get dinged for not having any APs, if as a jr. nobody can have AP classes. If as a jr. the top 10% of the class rank have multiple APs, than the view will change.

Lexadre; I know it's a little late in your circumstance, but I generally reply "En masse". Meaning, I reply so all the lurkers who are reading, but not asking questions, can also benefit from the topic.

While your school definitely wouldn't have AP classes, it is quite common for many european schools to have IB classes. After all; IB stands for "International Baccalaureate". Currently, the IB program is offered in more than 3,600 schools in more than 146 countries, to more than 1.1 Million students.

I only bring this up, because as someone who has lived/worked/traveled to 14 countries, I've seen a lot of American children who's parents work for civilian companies and/or the US government. Many of these students in fact do attend non-DOD schools. They attend local community schools. If you are interested in the academies and potentially will be moving overseas; discuss the IB program with your parents so you might be able to find a school that offers it. Basically, the way the IB program works, the same EXACT curriculum is offered to all students world wide. The 17 year old in Wyoming is taking th same classes as the kid in London, Paris, and Tokyo.

Anyway; I hope this helps anyone who might be preparing to move overseas.

Unfortunately I am not in an international school because the scholar fees are very expensive ...

My HS does not offer any IB,AP or honors ... I have took the most challenging courses that I could take.

PS: chriscorp, it is not to late I am entering my junior year in spetember. I am just gathering as much informations as I can .
 
No problems.. by the way. IB isn't in international schools. They are in regular schools. Its just that the school has to apply to the IB Organization to be trained and offer the program. In my state only 2 schools offer the IB program.

It won't hurt your application. That is why you are sending in a copy of your school's profile. You will only be scored/judged on the classes AVAILABLE vs the classes YOU TOOK. The academy wants to see that you took the most rigorous academic schedule that your school offers. AND, that you did well in it. Best of luck.
