For the second essay "writing sample" the question asks for "attributes, life experiences, unique perspectives, and/or special talents"
Would I be at a disadvantage if I simply talked about the qualities I possess that would make me a good cadet? Rather than an experience, perspective or talent?

Also for the third, it's optional. I read that you shouldn't submit it unless there's something important the academy needs to know. However would that appear that I'm being lazy and don't want to attend THAT badly?

Thank you!!

Actually, I've never heard that before. If I remember right from my application, it specifically stated to write only two essays and that the third one wouldn't even be looked at. I only submitted two, but I would follow the specific instructions on the application itself over any individual's advice.

I was able to write an essay I just don't want to be at a disadvantage because I didn't include "special" talents or perspectives. I feel like it's kind of included in why I'd be a good cadet.

Feedback on that idea/comment?

You must have done something or had an experience that the other applicants have not. Write about that. I don't think this essay is about "what makes me a good cadet" so much as, "what makes me an individual who is special in some way." Find that special thing (it could be as simple as a hobby or vacation somewhere) and write about that.

They are asking for something fairly specific, but giving you leeway to pick the subject. If they are asking for something, there is a reason. Give them what they want. I'm sure for English class you've had to write about some stuff you've done. Dig those up, see if anything sparks your memory. Who knows, you might surprise yourself.
