Class of 2017

I heard at AIM that there were roughly 3 dropouts per Swab company at that point of the summer, and later on in the week that people were predicting that the class of 2017 might be the first sub-200 class in a long time; my estimate is that ~215 are still there, and there will probably be scattered academic/honor dropouts over the next 4 years. Just a guess though, a Swab or upperclassman probably has a better idea of the exact numbers.

"Dropout" is too kind... "kickouts" sounds better to me.

I have no data to back this up, but it appeared, when I was a cadet that we lost a decent number of people during Swab Summer, and sprinkled conduct, honor, academic and physical issues across the next four years. But the other noticable departures that were volunary were after 3/c year before the 2/c obligations kicked in. And let me tell you, if you milk the federal government for free school, and leave after two years, your classmates are not happy.

I have been told that the class is already below 200. I can't verify it.

I have already heard of three of my CGAS friends getting the boot for medical reasons within the past couple of weeks. Hope Sea Trials are going well for those that remain. Sitting here with fingers crossed waiting to hear!

Objee, any official word on current Class of 2017 size, and how many lost by Company over Swab Summer?

Also, Objee, is it true my 1st deck room in A-Annex is now a mechanical room (the nerve!)?

Bump to the top, hoping Objee will jump in here with answers, if possible.

The last "official" report published by Cadet Admin was on 7/16 and it still showed the Class of 2017 at full strength, but that probably just means no one was actually discharged (out-processing usually takes about two weeks) from the class yet. I believe the class lost 20-25 during Swab Summer with just over half being voluntary resignations and the remainder being medical or PFE issues. Some of those medical discharges will eventually be offered deferrals to the Class of 2018 depending upon the nature of the disqualifying condition and whether or not it occurred during and/or was a result of Swab Summer training.
