Double check your car rate at DEN because the prices have plummeted.:)

We arrive for Parents Weekend on Thursday and leave on Tuesday AM. Our original rates booked a couple months ago was $371 for the cheapest car on Travelocity. OUCH! But we paid over $400 last year. Double ouch!

$371 was after the overpriced taxes tacked on... Fast forward to yesterday. We looked at Travelocity again and we found the rates to be in the low $200 range after tax. Then my wife went directly to Advantage car rentals website and got a compact for $171 after tax. For a midsized car it was only a few bucks more.

The message being, double check your rates. Because as of yesterday, it was less than 1/2 the price.:shake: We prepaid on the Advantage Rental site to get the better savings.

Good Luck! :)

Thanks for that update. We've always used Hotwire for rental cars since we didn't really care what we drove since there's just the two of us for a few days. Wouldn't necessarily attempt that with hotels and plane trips, but cars are pretty straight forward and we generally get a good deal.

Did the same last year. This year I reserved one in March for $425, in early July got the same for $374 and, just last week got the same car (full size) for a weekly rate of $94.11 (total charge $145.11). All this was done thru Enterprise. In looking today, they're listing as "sold out" up thru premium.

Last year if memory serves me, we looked at the rates and they didn't drop. $145 after tax is a great rate. Good work.:thumb:

Went back and looked for the same car over the same time from the same company and save $80 over the five days. Cancelled the old reservation. Thanks for the advice to check!

Rental cars

If you're a Costco member, always rent from Costco.com, which usually has the best prices, according to a Travel column from a while ago. This post made me check our PW reservation and it was down $150! Thanks for the heads up!

Rental cars

For "I" day, we did a "package deal" with an internet web site, and ended up paying over $500 for a compact. Went on line directly to Dollar a month ago for PW, and and got $150 weekly special. "Package Deals" ARE NOT ALWAYS THE BEST. Pays to shop around.
