Reserve officer promotion

Just to further clarify...

Regular AD "CURRENTLY"

O-1 to O-2 = at least 24 months TIS
O-2 to O-3 = at least 48 months TIS

@OP: That webpage is old (pre draw down/ budget cuts).

In my records it shows 18 months TIS for O-2, so it could be different

We're medical.

I can grab a provider off the street and wave a wand and make them an O-5. Look at the pay chart. We're the reason you see O-5 under 2.

You're welcome :yllol:

Each service isn't the same. USCG was 18 months to make O-2, 48 months from commissioning to make O-3. I don't think that has changed.... it was certainly that way long before I was commissioned, and was atleast that way up until I got out (at which time I lost track of when people were bring promoted.

For the Coast Guard, though, it was (from commissioning) 1.5 years for O-2, 4 years for O-3, and generally 10 years for O-4. The timing was different for reserves. Also, the requirements were different. Some people who didn't make O-3 active duty (passed over for promotion twice), DID make O-3 in the Coast Guard Reserves.

I'm ignorant to Coast Guard personnel, because you guys don't have medical assets (I think you guys use the Public Health Service Officers). I know its harder to get promoted in the CG. I just didn't know your promotion times are longer as well.

My son has made mention that those that commissioned before the change back to 24 months TIS for O-2 will still make O-2 in 18 months, I guess he'll find out in November.

I swear, rumors in the Military are worse then those in "The Housewives of New Jersey"

Yeah, I have heard the 24 months is solid, but maybe we were grandfathered in?
My OMPF is still saying June 2014 so I will stick with that! O-3 is still a solid 48 months though.

The rumor mill is bad but I think ROTC was the worst! We talked about LDAC moving for the entire duration I was a cadet...
