Interview for WP

I received an email from my field force representative stating that the academy is requesting that I be interviewed. The email stated "this in no way guarantees or implies acceptance. It just means that you are being seriously considered based on the information that we have so far."

I was under the impression that all candidates to WP were interviewed. Is this the case, or are only certain candidates asked to be interviewed?

Thanks for any insight you can offer! :thumb:

Not all candidates are interviewed by a FFR. DS was not and is currently a plebe.

Speaking of FFR's - Scooter, is the person who contacted you listed on the portal and called "State Coordinator" and/or "Congressional District Coordinator"? If so, DS e-mailed her way back when his portal first opened, to introduce himself, and again when his application opened to inquire about Congressional Academy days in our district - and he never heard back from her.

West Point interviews are more function of available FFRs in the area. Many FFRs, your chance of being interviewed is high. No FFR, no interview.

Most FFRs don't interview non-competitive candidates.

FFRs are volunteers, so depends on our schedule, we reply or don't reply to emails. Some Congressional districts don't have coordinators, than it usually defers to the state coordinator.

He is a district coordinator.

Thank you for clarifying this.

So does the directive (to the FFR) for an interview come from USMA admissions?

Right, I knew he didn't, but wasn't sure if the FFR has a list of candidates applying, and works from that or just exactly what the process is.

I believe all competitive candidates are interviewed, however not necessarily by a FFR. My DS Plebe was interviewed by the cadre as part of SLS and that served as his "interview" from the admissions standpoint. The cadre write an eval of the potential candidate.

I admit he got to know his FFR and talked to him several times so the FFR was very familiar with him. I don't know if his FFR wrote an additional evaluation or not.

I would take the request as an indication your DS/DD is seen as potentially competitive.

Is it possible that if there are a number of candidates within a district that are seen as pretty equally competitive on paper, WP will request an interview for all of them in an attempt to separate them a bit?

Is there any place on this forum to find out more information on this interview specifically?

The purpose of interviews is two-fold:
1) To get eyes on the candidates. What's on paper does not always give an accurate reflection of the candidate.
2) To inform the candidate about West Point. Does the candidate understand the 5 year AD/ 3 year Reserve commitment after graduation. Does the candidate have any questions about WP. It's also important to make sure that the candidate understands that they should only come to WP because they want to be an Army officer.

Interviews are not required although desired, if possible. There are not enough FFRs to interview candidates. Therefore, since not everyone can be interviewed, there are no interview WCS points.

A MemberLG pointed out, FFRs usually only interview competitive candidates, although we can interview risk candidates if we want to.

SLE interviews aren't always the best interviews . Cadre tend to view candidates differently, so it is possible for a FFR to interview a candidate who was interviewed at SLE.

IMO - it is unacceptable for a candidate to reach out to their FFR and the FFR not respond. FFRs are tasked to help candidates. If a FFR is too busy to answer an email, then maybe they shouldn't be a FFR.

buff81, thank you for the reply. Luckily my FFR is fantastic and I am really looking forward to the interview with him tomorrow.

. . .

In a partial defense of some FFRs, an email sent is not email received. Most cases, there should be a phone number associated with the FFR.

My opinions, many candidates don't reach out their FFRs properly.

I mostly get "Mr. FFR, when should I apply for my nomination"

A better way is

"Mr. FFR, I am Joe applying to West Point from somewhere in MD. So far I completed XYX on my application. I can't get ABC done. I am not sure how to get EFG done. What can I do to make myself more competitive"

If a FFR doesn't respond to an email, send it again and call him or her.

Not contacted for Interview

My DS is almost done with his application to West Point. The only thing left is the CFA which is scheduled the beginning of October. He has not been in contact with his FFR since he really didn't run into any issues on the application and didn't have any questions.

Does the fact that he has not been contacted regarding an interview imply that he is not competitive? From all of the information regarding stats of past classes he is certainly in that range.

Also of note, he was sent a medical remedial that we are working on gathering information for. Could that be a reason for not being contacted to interview?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Could be. Or it could be you have no FFR. Or it could be FFR is busy. See buff81's post earlier in this thread here: http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showthread.php?p=328553&highlight=interview#post328553

If its something you're concerned about, and you know you have an FFR, then perhaps it's time to reach out, not so much about the interview, but to at least establish contact.

Liaison?

On his portal under Liaison there is a person listed. I assume this is the FFR?

Thanks for your input.
