Hi all,

After enjoying the thrill of seeing our DS graduate this past June, we are in the middle of the KP application process with our youngest son. Does anyone out there have a feel for how much weight (if any) Admissions puts on having KP alumni in the family? We figure it can’t hurt, but weren’t sure if it’s a consideration.

Since I am the only one in my family to attend, or even think of trying, I cannot answer directly. I CAN state that there are a lot of siblings that go through as well as children of alumni.

One of my friends 2 elder sons were accepted into KP and the 3rd was not. She was not surprised either, but knows the engineering school he is now attending is perfect for him. It all works out!

It certainly can't hurt but I am a graduate, Academy Field Rep and an Alumni Award winner and my son (who was also being recruited for a sport) did not get in. Grades and SAT scores are much more important as well as which state the candidate is from. My son had good (but not great) SAT scores and grades. He was on 'Hold' for what seemed like forever before getting the official rejection at the end of April.

isn't there a place on the application where you list if parents or siblings have attended/graduated from one of the service academies? I know it is on the AFA application but can't remember for USMMA. If it is on there there must be some weight to it.

Thanks for the feedback!

As we have been telling our DS who is applying, it's nice to have a brother who made it through KP, but whether he gets in or not will is all on him.

If they consider who your family is, my kids don't stand a chance of getting in.

Admission Standards

According to the Code of Federal Regulations governing admissions:
"§ 310.57 Application and selection of midshipmen.
….. No preference shall be granted in selecting individuals for appointment because one or more members of their immediate families are alumni of the Academy.

Kneedeep-
there are a lot of siblings at KP...
of course the younger sibling needs to be qualified!
but it appears KP likes siblings... good luck!!! :thumb:
